Can police hack a lost phone?
    #26150856 - 08/24/19 01:04 PM (4 years, 8 months ago)

Say I lose my password protected phone which has incriminating text messages? Are they legally allowed to hack the phone if they find it in order return it to me? Is it even something city police would know how to do?

It's maybe technically possible, but I wouldn't worry about it personally. It's probably just gone forever.

Why would they waste resources hacking a phone with an unknown owner?

Unless the federal Marshalls are after you i wouldn't worry about it. Probably a possibility if the right agencies are interested in you. Not local or state cops

Kinda what I figured. I left my phone in a friends car and this thread is just an afterthought.

Yeah I wouldn't worry at all, especially if it's an iPhone.
