We have a lot of hurdles to overcome just to survive the short journey to mars or even in a large space station. Not to say we shouldn't just abandon the idea though.


Space exploration and colonization is inevitable the only question is will the USA play a part or will it allow India and China to colonize the solar system?

The problem is that we cannot survive the journey, yes we may make it there only do die from radiation poisoning and cancer from the journey.
No one is beating anyone anywhere, that is just a political talking point not biased in hard science to trigger an emotional response.
Until we figure out this hurdle of our limited understanding of reality; space travel for biological life is a castle in the clouds.
AI and robotics is the only tangible option atm. Investors are in asteroid mining, not colonizing past the moon for a good reason.

It like our cats trying to build a car to drive to the duck pond 1000 miles away. It is beyond their current understanding to do so without opposable thumbs and understanding the concept of mathematics, chemistry and relativity. We are just barley grasping the concepts of 4th dimensional thinking and need virtual reality to assist us to even do that.

This is where science is at, against a brick wall and running out of time. Hopefully AI and quantum computing will assist us in what we cannot comprehend or another genius gets an epiphany along the lines that Einstein had.

Simply put, if we could space travel and set up colony's; then getting off this planet wouldn't even be a concern with that level of technology and understanding of what it takes do such things.
Life as we know it is extremely rare in the vacuum of space for a very good reason and we can thank our magnetic field (in which we don't know "what it is" just what it does, atmosphere and the planets diversity for that one. :bottledup:

I am all for colonizing, I am just not suicidal enough to do it or feed people empty promises at this time in our current limited state of understanding the universe as a whole.
If we cannot save ourselves from a dying/changing planet how the fuck are we gonna start anew on a dead one? :justdontknow:

The koch brothers support tons and tons of stuff that I hate, but they're good patriotic americans who have dumped billions into our country trying in their own misguided way to improve it. Celebrating their death is wrong. These are not evil people. They reflect the political beliefs of probably half the nation.


Their beliefs and their support for those beliefs make them evil.

Much like I would find someone who believes that mass murder is a viable solution to be evil, I think someone who has no problem acting in bad faith to harm humanity's literal chances of survival to be wholly evil.

It will never happen as long as humans keep working against each other and the health of the atmosphere and planet. I don't think we can kill the earth but we can sure piss it off enough to destroy us with more hurricanes, volcanoes and earthquakes. People don't understand the earth is more powerful than any civilization and we are just making the earth mad with all the resources we drill for I recommend watching the movie anthropocene:the human epoch. It puts into perspective just how much pollution, drilling and other ways of obtaining resources really impacts the earth. I knew we were drilling for resources but didn't really understand the scope of how bad the problem was until I watched that movie. It makes me think we will never begin the climate healing process and keep right on up until the disaster that causes mass extinction of humans. By this time most of the animals will have mass extinction problems, fish are already dying off just because of rising water temperatures. We have to stop producing nonbiodegradable stuff,even for food storage, stop using nonrenewable energy, start feeding cows and pigs stuff that makes them produce less methane, and just chill out on consumption and consumerism. These are the things I know will help especially switching from plastic back to aluminum and glass. I don't care if the pice of coke goes up a few cents because it's not in plastic. I'd rather have clean water without microplastics. This plastic particles are already in the drinking supply of "potable" water in the U.S. it's only going to get worse if big corporations don't step up to make these changes. Im not having kids and reducing where I can but you can only do so much as a person. I think it's going to take a law to stop the production of nobiodegradeables and use of nonrenewable resources
