Boogs bags * 8
    #26148200 -

What's up everyone first I wanna apologize for not being on the site more and giving back I have been going through alot of shit with my grain and my brain Haha..  any way I know you all see me post my bags on potd and I am going to just show you how I make them  ...

It's all pretty easy and I'm sure most of you vets may do it the same way but here's mine ..

So I have been using straight coir and verm I use the organic expert coir from walmart and it doesnt like to hold much water without getting too wet .. but I will put 3 to 6 of those blocks in a water trough depending on how much I need and will use one 5 gallon bucket less then the blocks I used seems to work perfect .. and not all the way full either I'd say 4 gallons per bucket .. now I played with the water ratio a little and depending on where you are i would recommend you do the same .. the bag create more humidity and microclimates then just regular monotubs .. so that's why I say .. if you dont run a fan make it a little drier if you do run it wetter

I have to have my ac on all the time right now so using coir that let's out a really quick light stream is how it works out to be ..
I then load 3 qts of coir into my spawn bags and load them into my steamer and turn it on now I dont put the temp probe in cause it doesnt matter if it goes over pasteurization temps.. and I allow them to cook roughly 4 to 5 steam water reservoir refills comes out to about 8 to 10 hours and it's usually around 180 degrees give or take.  Allow them to cool over a 24 hour period then I take 1 qt of spawn and load i zip tie then place in the tubs as so if you dont then you will not be able to get the full potential.  In my 66qt well old 66qt tubs I get 6 the new ones that are not as long but taller I only get 5 these 106qt I get 9 those need to be dialed in more I have 1 extra hole as my regular tubs 8 on the bottom and 6 on top ..

So this is is my tub set up 4 1-1/4" holes on top 2 in each side ..  and 6 1" holes on the bottom 3 on each side .. with the sub having more water and my jiffy casing I can use one layer of micro pores tape through out with out messing with it too much just depends on where the tubs are in my room ..

You obviously dont have to change your hole placement to run the bags I am just covering my process.

So then I case with jiffy seed starter this is how the bags look I mix one and a half qts per bags and seems to be just fine but play with it to your liking .. I pasteurize this I will just place a thermometer in the bag and cook with the coir till reaches 145 then I will take it out cause by the time it reaches 145 it has been there for a couple hours ..

I sprinkle a light layer over top of my sub either real tubs or bags I do the same it works out to be about 1/8 to 1/4" but just enough to cover the surface.

And here are my results

Pros .. easy clean up,  if a bag gets contaminated it can easily be picked out and tossed .. I usually dont get many contams even with iffy jars maybe waiting while they colonized closed up helps ?? Usually pull with a good culture 1 to 2+ ounces per bag so you can get well over a half p either 6 qts of spawn . Not as bulky to get rid of you can easily toss them in a black garbage bag ..

Cons lots of grain work depending on how many tubs you will have to do alot of spawn... I run hundreds of jars per month .. lots of plastic waste .. not many cons honestly

6 bags worth is pretty much a bucket and after tare it came out to what you see with 6 qts spawn 1to3 ratio

 :goodday: thanks fellas I dont think I would ever go back to regular tubs .. on top of everything else I forgot to mention how many flushes you can pull with these ..if taken care of you can get at least 4 but after 2 the sub is pretty spent but gives you time to catch up on spawn before needing to toss

I like the idea of growing in the bags and being able to Isolate a contaminated bag.
I assume you cut the top off the bags after a 100% colonization..

I was wondering if you ever tried just sterilizing the coir/verm in the pc. instead of pasteurizing it?

I have never experimented much, I just keep doing the bucket tek year after year.

Here's what Pastywhyte said a few years back on sterilizing coir: https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/20084726#20084726
