If you want to save water, just do a super heavy mist three times a day for the second flush.

I explained above it's much more than just saving water. It saves me LOTS of time by not having to wait next to my tubs while they fill, and makes harvesting WAY easier. Just those 2 benefits are very worth it for me.

Is a 3/8 hole and tuck tape fancy enough?  You'd have to replace the tape each time you use it.

I just use trays in the tub instead of having the substrate in the tub itself to get around those problems. I know it's not the most efficient use of space but it makes things so much easier. You can just pull the trays out to harvest and any sidepins can usually be removed without actually removing the substrate from the tray.

Like solid bottom trays? Post a pic? I've come up with a slight mod to my original post, but haven't updated it yet, will soon.

Thanks! I'm actually going to stop doing this though. I'm switching to Caps' SOS method. The boxes he uses have larger length/width so the sub would be significantly larger than the rack. And they're much shallower so I don't need to lift out for access. I won't be able to be as lazy about surface conditions though, but oh well.
