Spawn bag incubation temps...so much conflicting info

I’m interested in switching from quart jars to spawn bags. I’ve read several spawn bag teks/threads, and have seen a lot of conflicting info. I’ve read recommendations incubation temps should ONLY be between 65-70F, another tek said ONLY between 80-84F, another tek said they don’t pay much attention. How can these vary so widely? Isn’t this science? What’s the REAL answer?

If I have to keep them cool, that will be challenging in a SoCal environment. We put the thermostat at 80F on hot days. Is that too hot for bags? Should I just give up the bag idea? Or only use them during winter?

I’ve been using Bod’s oat and tub teks with much success, and have built my infrastructure around that, so I’d like to keep as close to that as possible, just with bags instead of tons of jars.

I would say 80F max for cultivation regardless of jars/bags. The higher the temps the get the more prolific contaminants become. Ideally there are none, but that's not entirely realistic. Further, mycelium produces heat ad it grows, exothermic. Higher temperatures begin to become detrimental to mycelial growth in the 90s and death occurs around 110F. I think the rule of thumb is the colony itself is around 10° hotter than the ambient temperature. If you're running at 80+F then you start to enter the red zone.

68-72 is good. 65-75 is fine.

Room temp

80s fine too. But most people keep their places comfortable

Yeah, my gf and I have different ideas what "comfortable" means 🙄. Plus, the lower the temp, the higher the bill 😕.

They fruit in 80+ on the gulf coast. Just indoors lower temps helps thickness of fruits and tends to be less encouraging to contaminants

I've run em in the garage as high as in the 90s, but would not recommend it. Moved onto the pantry to get out of the heat yhis summer.

10 degrees seems a bit high, no? Most sources say 3-5 degrees higher within grainbags.

Between 74f(room temp) and 80f

Higher temps promote bacteria, I was dialing in a tilt incubator recently and found out about having things to hot when I had to toss 24L of wbs....sticky, smelly wbs  :facepalm:

What size bags should I use if I'm going to put 3qts (2.83L) into each 54qt (51L) tub?

68-70°F room temp for me.

Years ago growing in a basement in the winter I had spawn bags colonizing in low temps just fine, as long as it's not freezing it will just take a little longer.

75-85F is fine, most of the cubensis we grow are sub-tropical which would equate to those temperatures in the day time... + or - 5 is pushing it outside of its comfort zone either way IMO.
