Very few of those 60k deaths you stated that were labeled "heroin" were actually just heroin (active cuts combined with reactions due to cheap "filler" cuts).

I'd bet at-least 50% of those deaths were from powder containing less than 50% heroin.

Like any substance: if you don't know what you're taking, then you shouldn't be taking it.

Pretty sure you are misinterpreting their post.

The point I got is that there will always be someone smarter and more strong willed then you who still succumbs to addiction, so regardless of how "smart" you think you or your friends are you need to be careful. I don't think they are literally saying their addict friends are smarter then any other addict. Just that for every person who thinks they have the willpower to avoid addiction there was someone stronger who failed, and it seems like 99% of people end up hooked or finally quit.

I'd argue assuming you and your friends are smarter then generations of people battling addiction is even more naive.

Truth can come off as strange
In this case I believe anyone saying no one is smarter than their friends could look at a lot of things as strange tho

He elaborated on how he was close with these people, and that is friends and nephew were people that you won't find smarter and strong willed because they were intelligent and went to college. pretty clear cut to me.

Me and my friends, as stated, don't use heroin...
I haven't touched it in years, never used a needle, and was in a "unique" position of having raw white for free. I would never use something I could't test for purity/impurities.
After that I switched to the natural plant anytime I used.

Wife and kids now & I haven't used anything other than cannabis and magic in years.

I never stated I was smarter than anyone, and doing so would be ridiculous and futile to do so.

There are a lot of functional addicts who hide it well and maintain a normal life. Still just as destructive to your body and mind even if it is an easily maintained addiction.

Yes, any addiction is un-healthy.
If you can't take days or weeks off without it then you've lost control.
Not having a substance that you didn't create yourself or test/purify an acquired one can be even more dangerous.

If heroin wasn't so bad, 60k people wouldnt have died last year.  Don't end up some dead jackass OP. good luck!

Heroin didn't kill anyone. People allowed themselves to die and blamed it on the heroin.

You know how we psychedelic users claim how we are made of drugs therefore psychedelics don't cause hallucinations? It's like that.

If I ever die from an overdose, I want you to say "damn, bill knows he should have been smarter than that" not "damn heroin killed another one"

I haven't done anything for a few days. I think I'll quit now. Seems like a smart move. I gotta grow up. Cause I'm sent by God and all that good stuff. Think I'm gonna eat 200ug and an edible and watch Dave Chappelles new stand up special

Yea I agree, it's the person that kills themselves with a drug, just like I don't blame a gun for someone's murders.  Inanimate objects etc.

Can't say I agree with that logic entirely.

I've seen people unwittingly be given huge doses of psychedelics and be lucky to come down safely, in some cases they came down in the hospital or jail. I've known other people who accidentally died or killed themselves while very out of it, I don't blame psychedelics for those situations but it's hard to deny that they are the direct result of potent psychoactive drugs. Hell I knew some people who went and tripped at the coast and had a great time until one of them thought he could fly and jumped off a seaside cliff

What you are talking about applies more to meditation and self induced experiences I'd say, otherwise any substance you take could be drastically altering your brain chemistry for better or worse.

Drugs make people do things they normally never would ever consider, and it's often virtually impossible to imagine some of the crazy mind states people end up in before shit hits the fan.

It seems stupid to put the blame entirely on the substance or person since there can be so many factors, it's rarely black and white like that.

Yeah there's degrees too it. I was just giving an example. A poor one at that. But you get the point

But the idea is that when people do small doses to get to know the drug, the chance of hospital stays, psych wards and death drop tremendously. People will just go out and dump anything down their throat and wonder why strange things happen.

The higher you push the drug, the higher the drug pushes you. If I chose to do PCP right now, I bet if I did a small dose at first I would be totally safe where as another person will do an unknown dose and go crazy.

But I understand, people have bad reactions to things. Drugs are not totally safe but the reprucussions could be drastically safer when done wisely

If you're lucky, you only lose money. If you're kind of lucky, you lose money and relationships.

If you don't have any luck, it's jails, institutions and death.

But that's how good heroin feels. When you find it, it's a friend that's always there. It's bitchy and will steal from you, but it stays loyal in the fact that it's always there for you to hide the pain of whatever happens. I love and hate you, heroin. It's kind of like that toxic girlfriend that you can't stand to be around but something won't let you leave her.
