Liberty cap hunting (field types) advice needed?

I hope to go hunting for some liberty caps in the coming weeks. I have located a couple of fields where I have noticed sheep have been rotated between this year.

This may seem like a strange question but which fields am I likely to have better luck:

One field is what I would consider an old meadow with lush green grass that is not so well maintained, it feels more like old British countryside and wild. It’s on the edge of a village and has been used for sheep for many years.

The others feel much less mature and the grass overall has more of a yellow tinge. The grass is a little more sparse also. The sheep are in this field currently.

I will check all of the fields but trying to understand if there is a better suited habitat or if it’s just luck of the draw?

I would guess the first field is more likely, but having said that, the early ones I have found this year have all been on coarse ground along a mountain path, rather than on the lush grass in the fields that adjoin it. They tend to prefer landscapes that haven't been disturbed for years and haven't been artificially fertilised, but you can always find exceptions as I have. It's hard to predict where they will grow, they could be in one field but not in the next. They do, however, tend to pop up in the same spots year after year, so if you find them in one spot, be sure to check that very same spot the next year, and every year you can add more areas to your reliable spots so it becomes easier to find them each year. Just remember, the important thing is the grass, it does not necessarily need to be pasture, you can find them in public parks and golf courses if that is all you are near to. I find sheep fields are the best though. I'm not sure if it's because those field are more coarse and undisturbed, or if it is because the sheep keep the grass shorter so they are easier to see, but it's probably a bit of both.
