I’ll stay at the 1:4 then I’m just so used to having so much spawn on hand but now I have no need then. I can’t fill my tent with 8 trays worth so I’ll just do two or three trays at a time in the tent

Yeah too high a Spawn ratio and all you’ll get is overlay

Interesting... I did like a 1:1 last time if I remember right with cambo. Lots of overlay. But I still got decent results.

This time I'm doing 1:3. Almost fully colonized so I'm curious what will happen.

Are you guys still consolidating sub for about a week? What's the consensus on that?

What you mean? Are you doing sterile bulk or pasteurized? I cut my spawn In With my pasteurized bulk  directly in the tray give it 7-10 days then case give it 12 hours then FC

IMO, the grow leaves out all of the important details...like details on
the tub itself. How did he manage FAE?

But I was thinking about trying something like this with one of pasty's
new tubs. Plan was to just put the tub in my grow room bc of the temps...
maybe drill some extra holes...and see what happens.

Looks like he has that tub sitting in a greenhouse

Yeah I've done MacMerdin's cakes. It works. Just didn't get big yields.
I want something like a tub that will kick out at least 1oz.

Yeah, I want low tech. Like throw a tub in a hot room. Make sure the ambient RH is kinda up there
and see what happens. I saw some grow on FB a while back that looked like a mono and that dude
pulled it off big time.

I mean that’s how I started with mine it was just a mono with a fan pointed at it I found the more I increased the fan the better they did but also some more hand watering I had to do it can be done the yields were not nearly as good as with the system on it and I had to hand water about 5 to 8 times a day but if you can do that it will work. The problem is pans do really well with high levels of evaporation however if you give them this you also need to replenish the moisture you evaporate without some kind of automated system it just requires a vigilant babysitter. The less you evaporate the more low maintenance it becomes however your yields decrease as well.
Now you could just hook a reptile fogger up to it and put that on a timer and dial it in by trial and error and have a fan pointing at the tub I’ve used a similar method quite successfully for tamps The last few months I would imagine it will also work for pans better yields than nothing but less than cycling

I quickly moved into automated systems however if you limit your amount of evaporation then the casing layer and the nature of pan mycelium it would use up water less quickly than cubes. I would imagine your yield amount would be much more dependent upon genetics rather than conditions. Everything I’ve done so far points to increased evaporation leads to increase yield returns. I pushed this as hard as I could & found that my point of diminishing returns is around 3 min fog, 10 min still, 5 min fan. Now this varies depending upon room humidity substrate hydration species and temperature but for the most part that’s as hard as you can push it. I didn’t do a whole lot with low evap setups so I’m not exactly sure the difference but I get close to 40gs average per qt (well less because I only fill about 2/3 full) of spawn

Jake I'm spawning oats to pasteurize sub. Are you giving 7 days after full colonization of sub?

No not after colonization it takes about 7 -10 days to colonize then I case give it 12 hours then introduce into fruiting conditions

This is what my set up is, very low tech. plastic box, enclosed space but no lid, wet perlite and mist the walls 2 a day, take the containers out so they dont get hit while misting, in a hot room.  Everything low tech and natural materials. Id say to anyone give it a try dont let the information overload or thinking its too complicated hold one back.

pans grow so fast id just have them in small containers but right now I had to go back to spores and now trying a spawn run with coconut trunk fiber, similar to coir but the trunk is made up of hollow "plant veins".  Its going very well and iv realized one small container of colonized straw is enough for two small trays of similar bulk. In hindsight mistakes have been made.

Right now it looks great. Although I am worried its too dry and the myc doesnt take well to misting. On the other hand its probably fine and needs a few days.

Gotcha. Have you experimented with consolidating sub?

I'm curious because for a while people were saying it's the best way to prevent overlay.

With cubes I know people say it leads to more pins and therefore smaller fruits. Which based on testing seems accurate to me. But I don't believe that would apply to pans. Mainly since they don't seem to pin really without fae. Maybe if you waited a super long time.... It makes sense to me that consolidating could cause less overlay. Then again I believe overlay is mostly an issue with just cambo?

I'll try your method this run. Thanks!

If I think my culture is prone To overlay then I will give it additional time but usually by sectoring Duwe thin wispy cultures you can avoid this at the agar stage. sometimes all you get is thick cultures & in those cases it is best to give it some consolidation time but it doesn’t always work I have gotten Fruits from overlay trays taken clones which then produced ideal myc. But no, unless your myc is thick don’t worry about it just stick to wispy growths if u can
