Hey guys new to growing. Wanted to know if this is how my monotub should look like after 5 days with the top on had alot of condensation on top. Was also worried about what I circled because theres this rye grain that looks discolored and this yellow bubble looking substance. Also wanted to know does it look like this is cob web or mycelium and is this a good spot for fruiting close to window When is also a good time to start misting ?Thanks !

You need it covered with something to keep the moisture in. The yellow goo is metabolites from the colony fighting bacteria. You could put it in a SGFC or make a mono for it to sit in. Or do you already have it in mono

Great and yeah I made a monotub from disposable containers. Actually threw the top put because I thought I didn't need it anymore lol. Going boil hot water and clean it. Put this on top for now until I come home this should be good for now right ?

Thats a tray not a monotub, cubensis mycelium will eat that aluminum, this is why noone uses it.


Looks highly bacterial. Also looks like you used a hery high spawn rate and didnt bother using a top layer or even flattening out the top of your sub. Probably a good idea to make a casing with a juffy soil starter blend or at least put a top layer of coir. Gonna be a bitch maintaining good surface conditions with a plastic wrap lid or the one it came with. If you arent gonna make a casing you should poke a few holes in the plastic wrap for Fresh Air Exchange and leave it instead of replacing the lid which I’m assuming is opaque. This will allow in light which is beneficial and also allow you to observe conditions without opening it. If it ls a clear plastic lid that might be better.

Suggest you follow tek’s for a while before you start getting creative. This will probably get you a few fruits but looks far from ideal.

Misting will not be needed in your case as it looks wet af already, give it air exchange so it can dry out a little but don’t let it get dry, tiny beads of moisture on the surface is ideal, pooling is not.

Seen someone on youtube successfully grow like this don't see the problem. And have a lid just like this just don't have time to put the lid on till later in about 7 hours im at work.

You want advice on that tek? Email the youtube videomaker.

You want good, up to date advice on the newest and best methods? Stay here and read some teks, the first link in my signature is a good place to start.

Basically cubensis grow like weeds, even if you suck at it you will still usually get something, but if you follow the trusted and proven tek’s you’ll get alot more.

I find the issue new people have when it comes to evaluating methods (especially those on YouTube) is that they don’t really know what good results look like. A few fruits seem impressive when you haven’t grown any. They then follow said method or tek, end up with a few fruits that they are proud of. This presents issues later when people try to tell them it’s nothing to write home about and make suggestions on how to improve. They see it as an attack on their efforts rather than constructive criticism.

Then I’m not about to waste time with it. Cubes are weeds. Growing a few weeds is a waste of time.

Got it first time growing. Didn't really do full extent research. Seen someone have success with it and didn't think too much of it. I know some of you probably feel offended seeing this as it's not a proper way to do it since you guys are vets. Also see questions about whether aluminum could enter the shrooms never really seen an answer so does it ?

Another question can I grow mushroom with just rye grain spawn. Is a pasteurized mushroom compost needed ? Going to try again.
