Mimosa Hostilis Outdoors

Hi all,
I wish transplant my M. Hostilis outdoors. I live near Venice (USDA Zone 8b, but I'm not in Usa XD). Do you think that a plant can survive? Maybe with a plastic sheet during winter?

Maybe. It will need protection for the first couple of years, or prefer a sheltered position. It's likely doable though.

Acacia species would be better suited to outdoor planting, and you can just use the Phyllodes(leaves) of some species. Plus you get seeds and after a few years more acacia than will ever need in a lifetime.

Not without protection. Mimosa hostilis I belief is hardy to zone 10 or 11.

I'm zone 8-9 and i grow mine out doors even as sprouts through winter.

It´s certainly worth a try as it will be a much larger and better growing plant outdoors compared with a indoor plant in a pot.
Just be extra careful the first winters, when its bigger and older it can tolerate more cold and bad weather.

first year plants will need to be in pots they get mad to much sun they get mad bellow 40 deg. but next spring they will grow a foot every week if you throw in ground direct sun... not sure how big i should let it get before trying a harvest.

Thx you all, I'll try to leave a plant in a pot outdoor and I'll se if it dies or survives.

Hi all, the plant now is outdoors with 7°C. Its Leaves are becamng brown and fall down. The apex with new Leaves becames Black. Is it normal?

Do what Karode13 said and grow some acacias. Acacia acuminata and acacia floribunda are frost hardy.

Acacia floribunda grows really quickly and it has bright yellow flowers during Winter which bees love as source of pollen. It also provides food to seed eating birds.
