When will my mushrooms appear?

Hello guys,

I'm new here. First of all, I would like to thank the admins for making such a nice forum.






It's been a week since I've got out of the jar. Is it normal? I do fan and humidification 2-3 times a day. No dunking.

It looks wonky, but i don't do cakes. I would move it to the center of the tub and stop fanning it. Flip the tub lid upside  down and you will have plenty of FAE. What is your humidification process? If you're misting it directly then that migh be the cause of the odd look. I would just leave it be. Your RH os high so it's not gonna shrivel up until it flushes.

Your SGFC is all fucked. You need like three times the perlite, literally 100's of more holes and it needs to be raised a few inches off of the surface it's above. That cake looks pretty bad too.


You don't need to fan, although, since that's not even really a SGFC you might until you fix it. Also, you should really have a bunch of cakes in there, not just one, but the more I look at that cake, the more I think it's completely contamed and should be tossed.

It's only one cake so IDK why more perlite would be so necessary. I didn't even notice that there are holes at all on first glance. For a SGFC you do need more holes evenly drilled/poked around the tub, but not 100's.

Wouldn't only having one cake actually make the need for more perlite more important, as there is only one small area of living mycelium?

And for a SGFC that size, following the standard 2 inches apart will leave you with well over 100 holes.

Regardless... that cake looks toast.

I've followed these instructions: http://www.mushroomvideos.com (except dunking, why I didn't do that? long story..)

I raised it a few inches off of the surface like you said.
I have 3 more jars for putting inside. There are 36 holes on tub.

I will learn from my experience.

Did you say you didn't dunk it if so I doubt it will pin it will dry out.

Update! I saw my first pins and one of them is growing !! I didn't change anything. What I learn in this experience is that, trust yourself and never give up!

Nope, 6 pins are growing right now. This is my first experience. I'il be more careful with the others. Thank you for your comments guys.

I understand this is your first time. But you most definitely did half ass it. Because you have the set up.. just didn't take the time to do it right.

Since you're saying it is pinning, you got lucky. But that thing is going thru hell. Next time... put way more holes and also raise the cake so that water can evaporate  off the cake.

This is not a hobby that uses shortcuts.  It only leads to disappointment.

Hopefully you're able to get more than one flush out of it. Because one cake at 6 pins is probably not even going to be a gram dry.

Make sure that you dunk it after this flush and while its being dunked you should take time making a new SGFC... because that is just not going to do it. Suffocating your baby :frown:

First of all, I like your profile picture, it's really cool. Since I forgot dunk the cake in a water after birth, after read the comments, I dunk  my cake and left it in water for 24 hours. And I mist & fan 3 times a day. I mist gently over the cake and wait.

This was experimental. I had also three cakes in the box. After two of them's mycelium fully consolidate, I dunk them 24 hours and put them inside of a new sgfc. This time, it was better. I drilled more holes (I watched the video about how to make sgfc on the mushroomvideos.com website) and lift the sgfc 10cm above the ground. Plus, I added more perlite. And this became real mushroom growing right now. Sorry for my english, it isn't my native lang.
