Thought I'd post an update for those using mini monos...

I'm using 28qt tubs and I used the hole configuration as per Pasty's instructions. I spawned to fruiting conditions....

For the holes on the long side, I made them 4in high rather than 5in and in hindsight they should have been higher as my sub dried out and I had to mist quite a bit. For my next run Im going to redrill them at 5in.

I also left the holes on the long side open from the start and I think this contributed to the sub drying out so next time, I'm going to leave the middle hole open and tape the other 2 holes and only open them once the sub is fully colonised...

Pasty, what do you think of that strategy?

For my NSS tub, I had a sparse pinset. For the PESA tub I had a thick pinset around the edges and nothing in the center (harvested 20oz wet from the first flush so far and it's still going). Still waiting for the PE and GT tubs to start pinning....

Sounds like a reasonable course of action. Smaller subs do hold less water and will be more at risk of drying out than larger tubs would.

My last few tubs I was doing 13 litres of sub and 2 litres of top layer, which consists of 3 quarts verm and one canna (10 litre hydrated volume) brick to 5 quarts of water. I was spawning to this with 4 myco quarts of WBS.

First pins today, 10 days after spawning. Beautiful, dense droplets on the surface, looks quite good. However, quite a lot of pooling around the edges from condensation on the walls collecting and dripping down onto the substrate - I think I’ll use a liner for future tubs so the pooling is kept separate from the substrate.

650 g coir + 3.25 L boiling water
4 myco-quarts WBS spawn mixed with 6 L coir
2 L coir layered on top

All this talk of the metric system lol.

Im on my 2nd tier test of wg 3 tub run using ez dials. Next up will be 3 low holes on short end for wg. And for 2nd flush im loving the way the top layer has fuzzed up. With mp tape, fish filters or even poly i usually have to mist for 2-3 days post flush. I watered these the first day after harvest and that is it!

New tubs

2nd flush from 1st trial

It’s just a single hole in the middle. In that high of humidity you might need an extra hole or two, I would add a sixth to the hole clusters at the top on the short sides. I couldn’t even imagine RH that high.

The last couple months on Van Isle we had such drastic humidity that my entire basement where I'm growing was 85% RH on average. I put a small fan in the closet where my tubs are and pointed it towards the ceiling to encourage at least some form of humidity variance and it seemed to work out without adding more holes.

Thanks for the feed back pasty. One more question.
How many tubs high can I get away with stacking on each other?

Also do the lights need to be over head for the shrooms to grow straight up or can I run them vertically on the walls

Do you case with this tek as well?

I'm running 25 of these tubs stacked 5 high with a couple of 4' dual t5 flourecent lights hanging vertically on the wall, and it provies plenty of light to all of them, you just have to rotate the tubs every other day to keep them growing straight.

5 high is about as much as I go because the top rows are almost out of range of the lights, and the lids are flexing a bit on the bottom row so I keep all my heavy freshly spawned tubs on the floor.

Hello all, I have successfully had two nice flushes from jars in a "kit", yes a kit.

I plan on doing a Humidity Dome kit next as a bulk grow..there is no heat source with the kit so as a general query...do the shoe box or tub grows require a heat source? I would assume (low) humidity may be an issue if not.

Please don't slay me for doing kits, I'm lazy like that.

Well don’t be too lazy to read all the basic stuff here too then.

Heating pads and stuff are no good. I’ve fruited tubs as cold as 50f with no problem. 70 would be ideal.

Pastywhyte has very specific hole placement, size for 66qt tubs. What about other size tubs are there specifications for 6qt etc?

I'm currently testing two purple handle Sterilite 27 quart tubs. They're the same height as the 66 qt tubs so I drilled the same five short side upper holes. For the long side lower holes I did the same as the 66 quart tubs (two holes 5" up from the bottom and 3" in from the sides) except no middle hole. I'll post here once I have an idea of how they turn out.

Ive concluded that 3 holes on the lower short side works perfect for 50rh. At least with two varieties. Not sure about pe varieties.

Thanks for your work, it is much appreciated.

The veils of my first tub are starting to break and the fruits are very short, no more than 2 inches tall (that is short, right?) but the width of the stems seems normal. There’s also myc growing on some of the caps. My RH is about 50% and I think I may need to drill more holes. A few questions for Eat, Pasty, or anyone:

I’ve read that short fruits can be a result of things being “too wet”. My sub is 650 g coir and 3.25 qt water. It seemed to be about field capacity but I’m not sure. Could short fruits be a result of too little FAE as well, or mostly just over-hydrated sub? (I’m also aware that it could simply be due to genetics.)

In summary, I’m wondering if I’m order to address the short fruits I should drill more holes, and/or prep my substrate drier. Perhaps if I drill more lower holes the second flush fruits will be larger? Happy to take more pics or clarify any details of what I did, if needed. Thank you!
