Is PF Classic (aka Matias Romero) a slow germinator?
    #2613801 - 04/29/04 12:37 AM (13 years, 7 months ago)

I am wondering what the average time from inoculation to germination is for PFC (Matias Romero). Is it one of the slower strains? What about in an incubator, and at room temp?

And once it germinates, how long does PFC typically take to colonize the entire PF-style jar?

Thanks

Never grew them PF style, but they were very fast colonizers on grain.

pF can indeed be a slow germinator...usually 4 days is the minimum to see myc, sometimes as long as nine days, especially if its cold... I find that they like 86 degrees, but they give off a lot of heat themselves while germinating, so putting them in a 78- 80 degree environment will keep them happy... any warmer than that and growth will slow dramatically...

the whole jar is usually colonised by the 11th or 12th day, but i've seen it take as long as 30 days...

Thanks for the answers guys. One last question: is Matias Romero pretty forgiving and pretty contam-resistant, or does it contam fairly easily and is picky with regards to temperature? I know that this strain is known to highly favor jars, so I figure that maybe it also strongly favors a specific temperature.

Thanks.

Naw, the temps are the same as anyother cube. Contam resistance wasn't a issue at the time I didn't see any so I can't comment on the rest.

I started my jars in July. Been waiting since.
I used quart jars so when the bottom didn't fully colonize, I filled the jar with filtered water and let it soak overnight. I drained the excess water, and knocked the cake from the jar into vermiculite.. Rolled That guy around, patted on the verm and stood it on the jar lid in a zip lock bag. I open and fan one to two times a day. That was about a month ago. Here's a pic from. Yesterday

Where am. I going wrong?

:oldthread:

also, your going wrong by having an improper fruiting chamber, and that cake is placed on top of verm.

I didn't not realize this was a 13 year old post bumped. :facepalm3:

All through our childhood we are told, "Don't be a quitter". Then as soon as we take drugs, think for ourselves, or fight for our rights, those same people tell us to quit. Got to love the double standard.

Kids don't be a quitter, stay on those drugs, and think for yourself!

Yeah I had a grow thread on that myco site. They aren't very helpful. I'm kinda pissed that I've been asking for help since I started this in July and post here once and you help... Wtf..

I used a pint jar. Had some difficulty with it colonizing on the bottom of the jar(probably due to lack of air exchange and possibly heat burn or lack. Of water) (not sure I've been pretty much on my own here... Idk if I'm allowed to cross post to their site with my post, if anyone cares to read)

What should have been my steps w the SAB
