mrmazdarx9 said: Nope I use big ball masons, people have been using tyvek suits for jars for years, not as good as sfd, its not the best ill admit but it works and if your careful youll be fine and its alot less of a fuck around than messing with polyfiller. I didnt realise my weight was missing till id done the batch couldnt find it again but thought fuck it see what happens, it did help that my agar work is on point and general SAB work is good too.

I’ve been using tyvek suits on jars for years too without any problems. Two squares per jar, screwed in to the lid threads. I’ve always thought it works pretty well. I’ve almost brought sfd’s a few times but for the price of one delivered to my house that I could get a few jars out of I can get a xxxl tyvek suit that will probably do well over a hundred. Plus I hate siliconing anything and can’t be arsed with polyfill either.
Thats why i use them

As with a lot of things in mush cult, I guess it comes down to preference trial and error and what works best in your situation.
FWIW I dont have many lids with sfd's not because of cost or silicon but because I've got a pillow full of polyfill which will probably last longer than I will.

EVERYTHING is preference... some people PREFER to do dumb shit, or suffer greatly, from just not knowing any better, or even selfish pride! Lol... I'd say "whatever works best for you " applies to LIFE in general...

Tesco own brand spice/herb jars have PP5 lids and are rectangular so can be laid on one side for agar to spread out more, there is a tight enough neck on the jar so when laid flat it is not spilling out. The lids are handy to use too, they flip up and there is a small hole, no unscrewing needed if just dropping stuff in. Some of the lids do not say PP on them but they more than likely are. PP is generally used on items with a "living hinge", the non stamped lids have the same feel as the others too.

Bonne Maman jams are on offer in tesco for £2, own brand can be cheaper. I spotted the Bonne Maman salted caramel and a hazelnut caramel on offer here in Ireland but not showing on the UK site. It has a similar tapered jar
These are 220g so closer to the actual 1/2pint PF jar than the standard bonne maman jars (or similar own brands), a US half pint is 237ml

I made test jars of PF substrate in cow & gate babyfood jars. The caps & threads are a bit odd on them, very little thread and difficult enough to screw on correctly as they end up slanted. I had about 5 with other jars all loosely capped and when cooled in a PC they did not seal themselves like many do (which I do not like), I think due to the thread design they would not seal themselves. So I can leave the lids intact and let them cool naturally in the PC and not have to worry about them creating a vacuum in the jar (sucking in air when opened later and making them difficult to open).
They are usually on offer if you buy several, it would not cross peoples minds as they may have no babies! also they are not in the regular food aisles so you do not even see them. Also most would not think they would possible eat baby food, but I was just getting fruit puree ones and adding it to a smoothie or mixing it into natural yogurt, they do have some rice flour in them but it is minimal and mostly just fruit.
Mine were 125g jars. I see the 200g and 125g jars are 8 for £4 in tesco. They could be OK for agar though a bit hard to get into, esp. if you got the taller 200g ones.
Small empty jars like these often would cost more, so even if you were to dump it you would possibly save. You often have to buy huge amounts before it would become cheaper per jar.
