What is holding us back from eating human meat? * 1
    #26128810 -

Humanity goes out of it's way to torture, restrict and kill animals all the time so we have a source of protein rather than waited for that said thing to die or euthanizing it when it gets old. Right now we probably produce billions of pounds of meat everyday to be consumed from animals that have eyes and ears and brains just like ours.

So what is stopping us from eating each other? America has an obesity rate of 30-40%, so why don't we harness all that extra fat?
We could turn fat people into oil, use their bones for fertilizer, we could use their organs for meat, their muscles, brains eyes and ears.
That wake you had with jimmy that died in that drunk driving accident? Now maybe that could be a bar-b-que instead?
No need to bury or cremate him just dump the rest of him in the garden for your plants an animals to eat.

Wouldnt going green at least come with some responsibility for life. Isn't this the right decision?

Cannibalism in most cultures is disrespectful.  In some cultures, it's a way of preserving their memory.

Only animal I feel a bit bad about eating are cows.  They have sweet eye's.  They taste good, very good, and don't care about humans.

We don't eat dog or cat, well I don't know why.  Perhaps because they have a different level of existing with us.  They seem to know a lot about us as well.

In Asia they eat dog.  I think it's cruel.

Wait let's go back to the turning fat people into oil. That would really be killing like 10 birds with one stone. Imagine if you got to a certain BMI at a certain age and you were shipped off to a processing plant?

The law stops you...well they will eventually haha

I’ve always said this,  would never be hungry there is plenty of meat about lol

Main thing is though it’s not how you were raised. It is not socially acceptable, although on the contrary if your mother, father, neighbours, to the whole community were eaters of human meat you would be one to.

Could even breed humans specifically for that purpose, oh wait that’s already happening

If aliens are breeding people for food they sure aren't doing a very sustainable job. Every deer hunter knows there are minimum and maximum numbers of tags you need to keep a healthy population.

Its time for an extraterrestrial feast of epic proportions

No, actually, singling out humans for their undesired physical characteristics and then carting them off to remote facilities to be exterminated and processed always literally was the Holocaust.

I know the correct answer to the OP!!

Whats holding us back from cannibalism?

Its our lack of starvation. Cannibalism has happened among civilized humans so many times in history. It's when a group of people get stranded together for long enough that they run out of food and then eventually start eating the dead bodies. It happens every time.

All of us would eventually resort to eating eachother given enough time without food

What's holding me back from eating human flesh, primarily, would be the notion of eating a member of my own species, who had a life of an intricate richness comparable to my own, which was cut short so (s)he could become my meal.

With primarily vertebrates I find this already quite distasteful, but with fellow humans a border is crossed that I find prohibitive.

Why dont people eat human meat? Cause its fuckin' disgusting. Its sort of incestual in a way and incest is highly taboo.

Only remote tribes in places like Papa New Guinea will eat people and its only during a ritualistic killing/warfare to my understanding.

Wow, got a lot of uppidy folks in here.

Listen I'm not saying we should kill people and harvest them.
I'm just saying a lot of times people just die.
Meat is meat, it's just dead parts of an animal. We are animals we eat animals, why not cut out the middle man and just eat each other from time to time?
I'd save some animals from getting slaughtered and it'd be beneficial to the enviroment.
You guys like organic farms, vegan diets, well I'm trying to start a new diet, the cannibal diet.
We could have our own cannibal stores where people buy things that are made of humans like soap, coaches, candy, ribs, rears, milk?
Humans already are eating a different kind of animal that is 98% similar to us in it's DNA, it's called pig.
We slaughter pigs all the time, we aren't euthanizing them, we're just cutting their life short.
I'm looking at this from the humanist perspective and we'll make money, so much money we will be able to import people from other countries after they died to eat them!

Eating people goes back thousands of years!
And was even a story from around the time the old testament was written.

There was a certain woman that dwelt beyond Jordan, her name was Mary; her father was Eleazar, of the village Bethezob, which signifies the house of Hyssop. She was eminent for her family and her wealth, and had fled away to Jerusalem with the rest of the multitude, and was with them besieged therein at this time. The other effects of this woman had been already seized upon, such I mean as she had brought with her out of Perea, and removed to the city. What she had treasured up besides, as also what food she had contrived to save, had been also carried off by the rapacious guards, who came every day running into her house for that purpose.

This put the poor woman into a very great passion, and by the frequent reproaches and imprecations she east at these rapacious villains, she had provoked them to anger against her; but none of them, either out of the indignation she had raised against herself, or out of commiseration of her case, would take away her life; and if she found any food, she perceived her labors were for others, and not for herself; and it was now become impossible for her any way to find any more food, while the famine pierced through her very bowels and marrow, when also her passion was fired to a degree beyond the famine itself; nor did she consult with any thing but with her passion and the necessity she was in.

She then attempted a most unnatural thing; and snatching up her son, who was a child sucking at her breast, she said, "O thou miserable infant! for whom shall I preserve thee in this war, this famine, and this sedition? As to the war with the Romans, if they preserve our lives, we must be slaves. This famine also will destroy us, even before that slavery comes upon us. Yet are these seditious rogues more terrible than both the other. Come on; be thou my food, and be thou a fury to these seditious varlets, and a by-word to the world, which is all that is now wanting to complete the calamities of us Jews."

As soon as she had said this, she slew her son, and then roasted him, and eat the one half of him, and kept the other half by her concealed. Upon this the seditious came in presently, and smelling the horrid scent of this food, they threatened her that they would cut her throat immediately if she did not show them what food she had gotten ready. She replied that she had saved a very fine portion of it for them, and withal uncovered what was left of her son. Hereupon they were seized with a horror and amazement of mind, and stood astonished at the sight, when she said to them, "This is mine own son, and what hath been done was mine own doing! Come, eat of this food; for I have eaten of it myself! Do not you pretend to be either more tender than a woman, or more compassionate than a mother; but if you be so scrupulous, and do abominate this my sacrifice, as I have eaten the one half, let the rest be reserved for me also." After which those men went out trembling, being never so much aftrighted at any thing as they were at this, and with some difficulty they left the rest of that meat to the mother.

Upon which the whole city was full of this horrid action immediately; and while every body laid this miserable case before their own eyes, they trembled, as if this unheard of action had been done by themselves. So those that were thus distressed by the famine were very desirous to die, and those already dead were esteemed happy, because they had not lived long enough either to hear or to see such miseries.

I think the vast majority of people find the idea of eating another human being incredibly repulsive and disgusting on a number of levels. Humans are not the same as animals, but even if we're completely equal, that's more of an argument for not eating animals than it is for eating people.

If I had to choose between cannibalism and vegetarianism, I'd definitely go vegetarian.

I think in the long run it's the right thing to do to stop eating animals, but you'd have to make something that tastes as good as chicken and steak and bacon first. Maybe lab grown meat or something. I agree that we shouldn't eat animals, but what kind of a monster can say no to delicious bacon. Pigs are jerks anyway, and so are chickens.

What's holding us back? The fact that we can ''hunt'' other animals. If we couldn't, then of course we would turn to cannibalism. There's nothing wrong with it because the elite does it for health benefits.

Eating meat is bad enough.  But cannabalism, spreads dieases.  There's some nasty bugs in the human nervous system.  Spinal fluid is very dirty.

But if your ship wrecked go for back meat.  That is if there's no coconuts and you are too dumb to fish.

Interestingly enough cannibalism is not illegal in many places and some people do. They rarely do it without violating other laws though.

I'd say the biggest thing holding us, as societies, back from eating human meat is the fact that we don't have to. There's lots of not so savory things we could eat that wouldn't carry the same social repercussions and we don't... because we don't need to and they don't taste better than cow.

Speaking of cow... there's lots of parts of the cow that most societies these days rarely eat. Feet and tongue used to be eaten a lot when there was actual food scarcity but not so much anymore.

That being said you can still find both in certain western markets. AFAIK the only people who eat it grew up with it or are a connoisseur of unusual foods.

Not really enough reason to go out of your way to acquire human meat. Especially not when so many parts of societies still believe the body must be respectfully disposed of in order for the soul to transcend from this plain of existence.

And, interestingly enough, one of the most well known cannibal societies in modern times ate the flesh of their dead ancestors because they believed that was how the dead transcended from this world and into the next.

They developed crippling neurological disease not unlike mad cow.

Because it takes the slaughter of an innocent.  It's suffering, causes suffering, not very healthy at the amount of it we do it.  High in saturated fats, cholesterol.

Plant agriculture creates the biggest animal suffering. We are meant to eat meat, without animal foods, we would die. You talk about suffering, but would you rather see your family die of hunger than kill an animal? Also there's no such thing as ''not very healthy at the amount of it we do it''. We are supposed to eat animals. Our cells are made of saturated fats and cholesterol. The more meat you eat, the better. Vegans are the most evil people on earth. They hate humans and commit animal cruelty every day (humans are animals)

Just depends on the culture and how it's viewed growing up.

Like here in the states, eating horse would be close to as unthinkable as eating a dog or a cat

But in Mexico, Switzerland, and Germany, among others, they do.

Also certain religions don't eat pork (Muslims, Orthodox Jews) or beef (Hindus).

I've been watching this documentary on a place what was considered the world's most storied/legendary restaurant, a place called El Bulli in Spain, and the head chef supposedly was one of the first (actually they seem to allude to him being the first) to take pure ham fat, melt it down and then use it as a cooking oil

By the way I'm not endorsing taking overweight human beings and turning them into cooking oil. I'm just saying.

Considering the physical similarities and both of us living on slop for generations I could see that we probably would taste similar.

I respect your decision but I refuse to accept it. Could I interest you in some rosemary and thyme? Perhaps if I braised it in garlic butter?

Ranch? With human? Nah. I think a nice bbq sauce or perhaps a teriyaki marinade, or even a garlic butter sauce would pair well

Quote:
Twenty-five arrests throughout his criminal career included three convictions for molesting children -- one of whom was killed.

Protected by his rap sheet from the military draft in World War I, he soon devised a way to turn a profit on his appetites.

Grossmann's flat had been constructed with a separate entrance, and the other tenants seldom thought of him before the early morning hours, when he stumbled home from all-night drinking bouts with giggling prostitutes in tow. He could afford the booze and women now, because he had devised another source of income. While the war and subsequent depression nearly ruined Germany, with famine a result of failure on the battlefield, Georg Grossmann peddled fresh meat in the streets. His neighbors might be starving, but the man upstairs was never phased by rationing or shortages.

In August 1921, the landlord was disturbed by sounds of violent struggle, emanating from the butcher's flat. Police were summoned, and they found a freshly murdered woman in the kitchen, trussed up like a hog for slaughter. Evidence recovered from the flat suggested Grossmann had dispatched at least three women in as many weeks; his diary and his statements to police revealed that he had used the women sexually, then sold their flesh as beef or pork, disposing of the "useless" remnants in a nearby river.

Grossmann's case inevitably called up recent memories of Karl Denke in Silesia, and newspapers dubbed it the case of the "bread and butter brides." (A "bride," in Germany, may either be a newly-married woman or a one-night stand.) Georg laughed when he was sentenced by the court to die and cheated justice, as had Denke, by hanging himself in his cell.

I was reading Holocaust eye witness accounts when there was this poor guy relating how there were particularly unanticipated food shortages one time in Auschwitz and him getting told by an SS to "go cut off some meat in the Krematorium" which apparently occurred on some occasions.

Soylent green... :aweman:

Having read about cannibalism in remote Asian tribes, it was noted that apparently human meat tastes somewhat like chicken and that, of all things, feet were a delicacy.

Then there was the case of the German who put an ad on an online dating service where he was looking for someone to cook and eat. He found his match, and they carried out their plans. The meat guy signed papers and made a video statement that he was doing it voluntarily, the butcher cut a piece off of him, cooked it and they ate it together, and then they decided to carry through, the meat guy got butchered and eaten. Later on the butcher was arrested but since the situation was entirely consensual, he was not found guilty of a major crime that would warrant years of prison time.

Because this post would not be complete without some finesse in fucked-upness, I bring you Albert Fish one of the most disturbing real life wikipedia pages.

I remember reading one of the letters he sent a parent describing how he prepared her son. Making a gravy out of his face and trying to prepare his testicles but flushed them because they were too chewy or something. Pretty insane.

During his autopsy pathologists found over 30 needles embedded in his groin and crotch.

The Donner Party had to do it

But they didn't really have a choice

Also saw a Nat Geo episode on the world's toughest prisons, one in Russia (called Black Dolphin I believe) where there was a guy there who had killed some people and ate (parts) of his victims and also allegedly handed it to neighbors and said it was duck or somethin like that

We all know Jeff Dahmer of course, who I think said he ate his victims so that they'd become a "part of him" I think

He also attempted to give a few of his victims a lobotomy by using a hand drill and acid.

There's another time a victim escaped and cops caught the guy and Jeff convinced the officer the guy was drunk so Jeff took him back to his home.
