Is it due to people giving up? Every day I read a new article talking about global warming, over population, corrupt politics, and so on and so forth.

I understand that shit has always been fucked off, but not like this...

The scary part is I read an article last week with a warning. They stated that this mass attacks will happen more often than not and sure enough...

Fuck, in the past week... I literally just read about the cali guy who ran around stabbing mother fuckers.

Can we blame the hate on trump with a little bit of GTA?

It's extremely disheartening and scary.

It won't, however, keep me from living my life, BUT that thought will always be in the back of my mind.

I miss the 90s.

I agree. I think that historically this time will be a blip on the radar, even though it will be most of our lives as individuals. We have had transitions such as these before. Hell the Spanish Inquisition lasted 300 years and not long after it was abolished we saw the industrial revolution begin. An age of starting the process of believing in science and human rights.

IMO, it's going to get a lot fucking worse before it gets better. Like miniature apocalypse worse. People will look back and think, wow what an interesting time to be alive. But right now most of us would take less interesting for some peace and reason

Except you may be wrong. Most data suggest violent crime has decreased since the 90s.

What has actually happened is the emergence of social media and a decline by the mainstream media. In 2019, its much more likely that isolated events are hyped up and reported. This makes it feel like "people in general are losing their shit" when it's actually getting better.

My American friends, I am not deeply educated in politics or social matters but from what I gather from mainstream news, my own experience of my own Western country - Australia - and my own faculty of reason, the United States is the pinnacle of Western civilization which is now in steady decline and the United States is collapsing the fastest of all Western nations. $20+ trillion in debt, cookie cutter reality TV show host at your helm, your own government security organisations conspire against you (World Trade Center), the sheer majority of wealth in the top 1% of society and everyone is conditioned not to care, runaway racial issues, increasingly banal and valueless, aimless and hedonistic mass produced and mass indoctrinated popular culture, runaway murder statistics, military dominance of the entire globe and you are conditioned not to care, mass shootings with increasing frequency not declining frequency... It's not so easily as 'do something'.  There's not much direction to input.  Anything too different and it's seen as radical.  It's seen as subversive.  Look at what happened to the hippies in the 1960s.  Lot's of those folks ended up on watch lists and prison.

No, but violent crime and other types appear to be.

The approach to public health should be objective and based on science and fact, not emotion. Generally speaking, I'm pro gun control. However, as someone with extensive experience in public health, a better approach might be to take a step back and ask ourselves "What are the biggest causes of harm to the public?" and whether there are areas of "low hanging fruit" where minuscule public health interventions can result in large gains in quality of life etc.

That's a difficult question, but one approach to identifying/ranking public harms is looking at death statistics. You're probably aware that heart disease kills something like 600k people a year. Probably 20 times more people than gun-related violence (I'm generalizing my numbers here). But more importantly, decreasing heart disease could likely be achieved super easily: diet modification and 20 minutes of activity per day.

I'm not trying to minimalize gun violence. I think something should be done. I'm just trying to point out the average person's response to gun violence is far more emotional/visceral than other things. We should be aware of relative harms to keep things in perspective here.

Criminals don't abide to the law. True. A good NRA talking point.  Right now criminals have super easy access to all sorts of guns.  Take the guns away and they will have a hard time finding guns.  Plus the price will be super expensive and they won't be able to buy bullets at ToysRus anymore so how are they going to use their without bullets?  Up here our criminals have guns, generally gang members. These people shoot each other.  Plus we are right next to the US and still there is barely any guns in Canada (except rifles, we have a fuck ton of rifles)

It's no utopian. it is 100% achievable.  Most countries on earth managed it decades ago.

Dude I 100% agree. It's completely out of control, and I too blame both sides. The hatred and venom that is spewed from both sides is at such a boiling point that I just don't see it reversing. It's only getting worse. I'm hoping, probably against hope, to be wrong on this. And absolutely, the days of agreeing to disagree, or having a mature, respectable debate and agreement of differences is seemingly a thing of the past. I think most moderate Republican citizens and Democratic citizens are fine, thing is, the number of far-right and far-left citizens, I would guess, has spiked dramatically. These are the types of people that probably cheer the deaths of anyone on the other side.

We need to respect other citizen's rights to have philosophical differences politically, and be able to sit down and discuss it like mature adults, respectfully, and still be able to shake hands after. But that ain't happening anymore. In fact we're so devoid of that anymore that the shit sounds like some completely fictional fantasy.

It ain't so bad. Violent crime near the lowest point in recorded history, and most of us are in some of the safest countries in the world. It ain't perfect, but there is no sense being scared of shit that doesn't exist or you can't do anything about.

The US is not heading into a civil war and criminals don't have easy access to guns.  It's HARD to get a gun as a felon.  And civil war requires some sort of safe boundry and Government.

In relation to "doing something" and how the hippies were persecuted, watched and sometimes jailed. Well, the Australian government watches me. I'm not an ordinary bloke. I don't accept pretty much any scientific outlook on reality, I have my own understanding, and the government watches me because it is obviously right, and it is growing in breadth of understanding, and that means boundaries in society are becoming shaky from what I know, since they do not know if I cross them or not, or to what extent, and how it influences the world around me, not only socially and culturally by setting an example but by hints at the possibility that even the weather in my vicinity is influenced by my state of mind.

However from what I can gather they are pretty satisfied with my behaviour given it's impossible for anyone to know what sort of power I may have. I may have more than even I imagine presently. My brother is a homocide detective in the Police force and we are quite close, so I'm a member of the "Police family" and in at least two recent and severe instances of breaking the law I believe there have been some discussions about making the consequences easier for me, before applying a penalty.

I keep no secrets and plan to keep it this way. I try harder than I should to try and open people up to my ideas on daily basis in quite a sustained manner. I bring only love into society no matter how many people feel threatened by the X or question marks concerning my understanding and position, and I discipline and suffer myself in order to keep this love applying itself. I am strictly non-seditionist but I encourage denying most cultural practices and at least for now I have very little interest in going to any institutions to learn or belong.

What I know, if disseminated properly and maturely into society, will be nothing but a positive boon for absolutely every member of the Australian public. The government can see this and pretty much every Police car I go by shows a keen interest in my present circumstances, always positive, quite often with big grins. As it disseminates, I will lose any edge I may or may not have over others, and I discipline my thinking somewhat to make sure this eventuates, not for any moral reason however, but just as a matter of good sense and good nature.

So I mean. If you just get it RIGHT then you don't even have to have enemies, not even government.

SO DO SOMETHING ALREADY. :laugh:

People have been espousing fears of a civil war since probably the fucking civil war. There is absolutely no reason to believe now is any different

That's a difficult question, but one approach to identifying/ranking public harms is looking at death statistics. You're probably aware that heart disease kills something like 600k people a year. But more importantly, decreasing heart disease could likely be achieved super easily: diet modification and 20 minutes of activity per day.

Actually the solution to gun crime is not that complicated. Get rid of the guns. That’s the solution. It wouldn’t happen overnight but it would work. We just refuse to do it.

Yeah being murdered is incredibly unlikely for most people in the first world who don't associate with very bad people. If you're going to die from some sudden unexpected circumstance, it's a lot more likely to be something mundane like a car crash.

All while the CIA/DEA protects, brings in, and dumps drugs on the same people in then throws in cages for.

"My body my choice" works for woman who want to murder as many babies as they want, but not for us who want to decide what we ingest.

The foundation of this Country has been ass backwards and we're no longer living in the dark ages of intelligence for the public like the 40's where a false flag was laughably easy for them to pull of to further this agenda. Now the public has access and/or the ability if they want to pursue it and see the facts. And that does, and should, piss you the fuck off. But there's nothing worse than taking it out on your fellow Americans. Because in reality the large majority are not a part of it and do not support it.
