Panaeolus ID

Habitat:
Well curated garden. In the mulch

Gills:
Adnexed/Adnate. Grey/brown to brown to black in maturity. Mottled in appearance. Cheilocystidia present and prominent. Multiple tiers of gills slightly swollen in the middle.

Stem:
1-3mm thick/ 30-50mm long. Heavily striated along the whole stem. Grey/Tan at the top to Red/brown below a fine annular zone. Black spores can be seen. Fine fibrils cover the stem. Base is slightly swollen with white mycelium. Stem is hollow and brittle.


Cap:
10-60mm in diameter. Tan to dark brown. Darker toward the margin. Comic to campanulate to plane at maturity. Margin wavy at maturity. Slightly viscid only when wet. Mostly dry and cracked with horizontal fissures. Deep blueing where damaged but not showing for 2-4 hrs.

Spore print color:
Jet Black

Bruising:
Deep blue almost black

Thanks Alan! Was having a hard time pinpointing which variation exactly.

Doc there's actually a lot of controvery over that and you know it. Those who regularly hunt cints say they are as strong as cubes where the weaker ones might be a different Pan entirely. If they steer as strong as cubes saying they aren't is much more dangerous than saying they are strong when they are weak.

Or those reporting that are possibly more susceptible to the effects of Psilocybin,  the majority disagrees that they are comparable to Ps. cubensis.

As with anything that you have not tried before,  start small, but I will bet money that one Pan. Cinct. Will not do anything.  However,  I will bet that a single cubensis can send you to the stars.

My edibility/bioassy testing never deviates.. I always follow the same procedure which is as follows:

1 Test one small fraction of a mushroom. Ingest. Wait 1 hour. If there are no negative side affects then proceed to test 2

2 test one gram (to ensure that I don’t overdose due to bad ID lol)

3 test a “normal” dose following day. In this experiment “normal” will be the 3.8 dried grams as prescribed for a level 3 effect (info from the shroomery dose guidelines) made into a shroom tea.

This is how I test psilocybin containing mushrooms that I am unfamiliar with. As with anything allergies are serious and caution should always be exercised when consuming anything outside of normal. 

I appreciate your concern tacodude. And your input Doc. I agree with you both. Doc these pans are usually weak, and tacodude that’s because they are incorrectly ID’d.

Panaeolus cinctulus is about as strong as Psilocybe cubensis.    It's the other undescribed species that are weaker.

Its a sunny Southern California friday afternoon... Its about 3 hours till blast off here in Socal... Gonna be 3.8 dry grams as the suggested lvl 3 dose. I find myself to be a little more sensitive than others with psilocybin, but I havent had a lot of experience with the stronger Pans so this should be a well awaited experience. 
I will update when its all said and done.

I will say that was a pretty nice trip.
These aren’t as visual as cubes or as other psilocybin mushrooms but they were very sedating and euphoric. Normally I would expect some visuals on a lvl3 dose but this was just a little texture changing nothing more than the standard wood grain into water texture.

The whole experience peaked at about 2.5 hours in and lasted about 4-5 hours total. I think when I do these again I’m gonna bump up the dose and see where it gets me.
There were no after effects. I feel pretty clear with no side effects this morning. Well rested for sure. It was almost hard to stay awake I was feeling so nice.

Those pans looked a bit degraded. Might be the cause of the weak trip. 4 grams of cincts will normally give me a very visual trip.

How did you dry them?

Taco dude: you saw the scale it was the suggested 3.8 from the shroomery page on Pan cinctulus.

Subfinder: you are right these were not the freshest specimens. Many of them were very dark in color from being old and cracked. I dried them on a piece of paper in a enclosed environment. I also grow weed so I have drying setups. And also a good dehydrator on the way. Still fairly new to the whole thing so if you got some tips on drying I would love to hear them.

Lucky for me I found a lot more today and I am  sure a lot more to come so I’ll try again maybe this time I’ll try them fresh and see if that’s a little better

Ya man idk these are definitely weak/different than  Psilocybe mushrooms. I tried another dose in tea today with lemon. Thinking maybe it would work a little better than just eating them but not a whole lot is going on. Dosed about 1.5 hours ago and I can say that 3.8 is def not 3.5 of cubes.

Same dose as before. Just to make sure I didn’t screw it up cuz of something I did lol.

I recently got my food dehydrator and have been using it to dry these. I am pretty sure the specimens I was using before were badly degraded from my improper drying methods. I also think since I’ve been trippin every weekend my tolerance is probably up a little higher than normal at this point.
I currently have around 10+ dried grams saved up. I just keep finding them.

Do you have much exp with these tacodude? Subfinder in another thread hinted that the early spring/summer fruits are not as potent. But it’s now late August.

I have read great reviews and trip reports about these strains so I’m really kinda disappointed by my own experiences.  Any tips or anecdotal information would be appreciated!

No... I think I'd be able to distinguish them in person though.

Maybe try eating them raw again. How did you prepare the tea?
