Can i use .5 micron bags as spawn? Help

Will it make a diference if i use 5 bags inside of each other?. Reducing contaminants?

I am not 100% sure what I am answering here between the title, and the body of the post, but yes you can use 0.5 micron bags for your grain/spawn production needs.

They are actually becoming more popular because of the ability to preseal the bags when packing them into the PC, whereas the 0.2 micron bags will pop if you do that, so you have to PC them unsealed.

I have been using 0.2 micron, but some guys I respect have convinced me to step up to 0.5 micron to really ramp up my capacity.

As for the body of your post... Don't double bag anything. :cheers:

If you have contaminates with one bag, five bags aren't going to improve your success rate.

You're probably introducing contaminates during the inoculation process.

Try doing two separate bags one you inoculate and the other you don't.
See what bag or bags fail.
Store your two bags in a tub with a lid on for a clean environment..

Ok. Thanks man. Well. To late hajaja. Im just really anal about contaminants.
I already put them on the pc. If im doing 5lb to 6lb bags  for how much time.

If you are doing them at that weight (I pack 4 - 6lb bags into my Presto) You should be golden at 2.5 hours, 3 if you really want to be safe as I see a lot of people do around here.

I have been fine at 2 hours, but 2.5 feels like a safe/sweet spot with properly prepared grains.

If you can do 5lb sawdust blocks at 2.5 hours (150 minutes) you are definitely gucci with your grain bags. :thumbup:



Oh, and as always, the surest route to success is hours upon hours of reading the extensive amount of resources all of us shroomery members have available to us through the search function. :cheers:

Hola micelio. The jar that im doing is completely clean.
my concept of the 5 bags was that if anything gets in it will have a dificult time getting pass the seccond filter because there is no air movement. Thanks
