Thank God for Soap making and Nova on Netflix

Just got done turning 4 big jugs of corn, olive, canola, and lard oil into soap.


I quit trying to be fancy and making artisan soap with scents and additives, I only do it now for efficiancy and purity.

My last round of soap was way back in november, and it's lasted until now. If you calculate my costs in increased skin health and cost of materials, it's HIGHLY in the favor of making your own soap. By about 200%

And it's super easy with the lye calculators out there. Just make sure to cross check the water/lye ratio.

And be careful with the chemicals.


Oh yeah, and Nova is sweet. " The first human face, black holes, secrets of the knight, many others. All on netflix. Should be watched by all. Super awesome studies.

Forget the economics of it, making soap is fun! Yes be careful with lye, but it's not like fight club makes it out to be (rinse with lots of running water, not vinegar).

I think my favorite recipe has been roughly equal 16 oz each olive oil, coconut oil, lard, plus about 2 oz castor oil. There are a ton of videos online about making some really neat patterns with it, too. People love them as gifts, and the second year I made it for christmas one of my family member's coworkers bought $50 worth herself.
