Easiest place to live in the wild alone?
    #25789528 - 02/04/19 12:16 AM (4 years, 11 months ago)

Hello,

This may be a weird question, but does anybody know of areas that are pretty easy to just live off the land by yourself? Places that basically have an abundance of bush food, clean water, possible hunting and fishing opportunities. I'm talking about anywhere in the whole world basically. I currently live in Australia, so its pretty hard to survive in the wild here due to the dry and infertile conditions. Just wondering if its any easier somewhere else in the world (since I have no experience or knowledge outside where I am now)

Anyone have any suggestions? (you can PM me if you don't want to publicly broadcast a particular area)

Yes, I am considering going off grid for good. it probably won't happen, but I want to try it at least. My first choice would be to get some land and homestead, but I can't afford to get any land in the first place, so that plan went out the window pretty quick (didn't realize you needed to be wealthy in the first place to live off grid haha) So now I'm toying with this idea. My last option is to find an ashram and do live in volunteer work lmao

Probably easier to just save money in aus  then go up to Thailand ,Laos and live on 10$ a day for 6 months a year
Cheap flights from aus

I like the range of climate from Kentucky to Maine.

I am from PA, so the cold insists that a good winter cabin or canvas tent be in place simply in order to survive. In places like WV or KY, you may not have to worry about the cold as much.

Either way, it's great land. It's fertile land that accepts crops very easily. Fruit trees such as the peach and apple grow great in these areas. In PA, my peach trees do amazing. Lastly, you have the ability to hunt for meat and fur.

Grow food, put it in the root cellar, and then hunt and trap all year long.

Dude you're in australia. You know, the place that has the most successful bush people in the history of bush people. Other than animals trying to kill you, the desert is the best place to try to survive. Once you have a reliable way to get water, aka you know the location of 3 or 4 springs in a region that are 10 - 20 miles away from each other that can give you consistent, running water, that you can reliably filter, living in the desert is easy as fuck. The sun disinfects everything, there is no lymes disease, etc. You gotta worry about henta virus in old mining cabins, but this can be avoided by just not using buildings to stay in. Stay under rocks, cliffs, etc.

There's heaps of liveable areas outside of the cities in Australia but whats the use? Just go out camping for a couple of nights out in the bush and I'm sure you will be so joyful to be back home with all of its conveniences.

It has its disadvantages, the modern world is stressful and full of dramas. But it would be going to the other extreme by running away from it all and living like a savage, with panties made out of fern leaves, your source of food; the nearby anthill, squirming grubs, berries, wild trout, scraps from campers, fresh water with who knows what sort of bacteria and parasites floating in it.. etc etc

Living off the grid is like being addicted to cigarettes then not choosing to smoke anymore but picking up used butts off the ground to get a puff. You may start "off the grid" but then realise life is easier with a damn toilet cos you don't have to keep digging holes in the ground... or its easier to have electricity... it depends where on that spectrum you wish to dwell in.

Since you mentioned Ashram, why not just live at home where you are now and simplify it? Focus on your meditation and inner work while supporting it with the convenience of the modern world.

I'm assuming you're joking but the Australian bush is one of the most lethal wilderness areas in the world. It's not unheard of to reach summer temperatures of 120degrees.

It has claimed more European explorers in the last 200 years than any other continent.

Some but most of those patches are commercially or federally owned.

There was a bad drought some time back and all the top soil, already the thinnest in the world, blew away. Parts that weren't desert became desert.

Hawaii is pretty close to that.

Also any large national forest you could probably live like that. Except the winters would be harsh for sure. In Hawaii, you don't have to worry. But Turtle Island, definitely need a place to live in the winter.

A national forest on a large island near the equator would be ideal :yesnod:
