Noob help - should I remove these fruits from BRF cake?
    #26117243 -

This is a continuation of a thread I started in the Noob Forum but I thought I'd post here as I'm not sure how much action that gets.

I birthed my first cake last night and saw that there were more fruits than I realised as they had been hiding under the lid. Cheeky .

Anyway, I only dunked fully submerged for just over 8 hours as was concerned the mushrooms might abort or fall off. None of them did but they were a bit dangly. I was a bit clumsy when trying to support the dangling mushrooms when I got it onto my plate of verm and one large one detached as well as a 1/2inch pin. I din't roll but chucked some verm at it a bit haphazardly.

I'd read about stapling pins back on being successful but as I couldn't figure out a way to safely sterilise the staple and staple gun, I've just laid the big mushroom on top and kind of stuck the pin in manually where it's doing a bit of a balancing act (you can see that jutting out at an angle).

Is it worth leaving the larger ones on or should I just remove them? This is my first grow so I'm not sure if having these lying on the top is in some way preventing others from growing, or increasing likelihood of contam if the mushrooms are resting on a damp top? They've bruised considerably since this picture was taken last night.

Not the prettiest of cakes but it is the very first!

Personally i would remove them and dry them, then hopefully the cake will put all its energy into fruiting a new better flush

Thanks . Might have to wait a couple of days before harvest as waiting for my dehydrator to turn up and I don't have a fan.

On closer inspection, it looks like the veil has broken on two, if I'm right in thinking it's the bit on the cap that connects to the stipe. I'm amazed considering I only birthed them last night but this is a problem I'm having with lots of pins in the verm layer of my jars before they've consolidated. Two only fully colonised today but it looks like I'll be finding a mushroom or two under the jar lids when I remove them. I definitely want to try and avoid this happening on the next grow!
