poppy seeds...walmart
    #2611715 - 04/28/04 04:12 PM (12 years, 9 months ago)

i was killing time at wal mart yesterday and noticed a bag of seeds that was just labeled as "Poppy" in the seed rack....i know they usually sell California Poppy and Iceland Poppy there, but i wonder what the chances are of them being p.somniferum....i'm skeptical, but what's anyone else think?.....btw, they were red flowers on the pack...

does iceland poppy contain any opiates? Because I have a pack of these seeds from last spring and on the back it says "poisonous, all parts of poppy are poisonous". I assume they are discouraging it's use as an opiate?

How is it that I managed to post in a year old thread?

Oh, it was the related threads at the bottom of this 'quick reply'.

Yes, the seeds in the 'spice' section of Wal-Mart work. They are Tazzies. At least half of them sprouted, though it took a good 2 weeks to do so. I hear putting them in the fridge for a week or two before-hand will increase the amount of successful sprouts, but I did not do this.

But as for those packs of random poppies at wal-mart goes, you'd still need to harvest like at least a dozen poppies to make it worth your while.

If they can prove you were gonna use the plants to get high, yes it's illegal and they can charge you.
