It's a little late for that. Optimal temps for morels is 40-50 F. You can order a jar of spawn from FungiPerfecti and "seed" a burn area this fall and if lucky, you will have morels next spring.

true true true....

the only way to have some inbetween is to gro them....im working onit...as far morelmountain are the only that managed to gro them indoors i think...

Just so you know, I collected 33#'s of morels this spring on a military base a couple of hours from me. They had a missle misfire and burnt 100's maybe even a couple thousand acres of land last fall and i knew if I waited untill this spring, that would be the area to seach. And it paid off. Starting now, look for burn sites, flood areas, fire roads in the hills/mountains. Stuff like that and take notes of these places. Just after the thaw, not that you get much snow there (I used to live in VA Beach) head out and start hunting.

If you have a little land (just enough space for a garden) you can start your own morel patch. I got about 26#'s of morels this year off of my 4 patches and am starting the prep work for another 4 this summer, seed this fall and hopefully, get even more next spring.

By the way, those were DRY weights, not wet. 2oz dry equals 1lb wet. I had them falling out the back of my truck as I was making a "run" off the base. LOL Damn MP's. Seriously, I just didn't want to be stopped and have to answer a bunch of stupid question from idiots. Most bases, Army, are open to the public and are perfect for hunting with all the AA's and such. I found some on Quantico (that should be close to you) while there for a pistol match about 4 yrs ago. and also and Ft. Pickett while I was hunting spring gobblers.

thanks for all the info I will use it whenever the time seems to be right. I have never heard of burn sites I always heard of orchards having alot so thats a big help. Thanks alot.
