Fresh vs subsequent dried weight/dose guide!?
    #26111974 -

Hello,

I had a total of 341g fresh Golden Teachers and have dried them in a dehydrator at 40c til they are absolutely bone (or as it is called cracker) dry and they now weigh 24g. Since this isn’t the straight cut 90/10% I’m curious how I should adjust the dose?

Previously if I’d wanted 20g wet I’d have been expecting 2g dry right? But this doesn’t now add up!?

Experiences and recommendations?

Thanks!

Fox

the loss is because the water:tissue ratio is more like 92:8.

For dosing, nearly everyone measure their doses in dry weight, since fresh don't last long. So I'm a little confused why you're working from fresh weight as dosage. 3.5g dry would be a decent trip for most people.

You dose based on dry weight. That's the amount of actual mushroom material the water doesn't matter.
Besides you have no idea how weak or strong your mushrooms are if you grew them from spores.

Indoor grown cubes are usually 92-93% water so 100g wet turns to 7-8 grams dry. Outdoor cubes can be as low as 85% water from what some people have reported

Ah ok. Thank you!

That kinda answers half my question. But to clarify, the reason I asked is because I grew them indoors myself and a shroom dose calculator recommended for my body weight to take fresh 28 grams and dry 2.8g but effectively (or am I being dumb) my 28g fresh hasn’t dried to 2.8g essentially 2.8 grams of my dried is more than 28g if when it was fresh.... does that make more sense?

the dosage clalculator doesn't really work well. Weight is pretty irrelevant as well.

You wanna try 2.8, try 2.8. You'll feel somethign and be fine. Don't worry about trying to back engineer half of the estimate.

and no your thinking doesn't make sense. water is water, tissue is tissue. start weight:end weight doesn't matter.

Pretend you could rehydrate dried mushrooms back to fresh without them being slime.
they're going to be just as strong if you rehydrate them back to 90% moisture or 75% moisture or 92% moisture. Because the actives are not part of the water weight their part of the mushroom weight.
