Wild Weed ID request
    #26111131 -

So I heard about a weed that grows in my area called Opium Lettuce. I don't
really know if it's even worth collecting and harvesting... but I eventually
ran into a close relative of it (I THINK). I know where some are growing taller than me in a friend's backyard.

So my question is, is this weed (Lactuca serriola) prickly lettuce? I think I heard it contains Lactucarium and this specimen does have a latex white sap that dries into a brown/orange color.
I heard the leafs can be pinnately lobed, oblong, or lanceolate.

The leafs have brittle spikes underneath them and the stem does too.

Here's the latex sap

I suspect it might be prickly lettuce but I'm not sure. Thanks for reading!

That is indeed Lactuca serriola.

Can be quite a major weed in some areas. I can't speak for it's effects though.

:whathesaid:
The little spiny hairs on the underside of the main vein of the leaves is a good indication that it's Lactuca virola or serriola (they hybridize freely in nature)

I have this stuff all over my yard right now, maybe I should stop hating it? Its really spiny and sucks to pull sometimes. The plant does actually smell a lot like poppies do, that kind of bitter musky tone.

Sorry for the slow reply (but the shroomery has been down! :crazy2:

YES I did gather some seeds from it!!! I have them put away.
Such a nice plant.
OKAY check this out guys, I quit smoking weed like four months ago but
the high from the sap is real. The reason why I bring up quitting weed is because I don't know the effects of a "everyday" weed smoker.

Yes, I got high from smoking the dried sap. However I tried smoking it in a pipe with the flame directly on it. It doesn't work that way...
You have to get a short straw, and a piece of foil.
Put the pieces on the foil and burn under the foil with a lighter, inhale the
smoke with the straw, when I did that, THEN I got buzzed.
No joke, the high is very similar to Marijuana without the trippiness or anxiety you get, but I did get a little anxious after and I went to take a nap.

The high is similar to weed but less anxiety inducing. What's cool too is that I highly doubt it would show up on a standard drug test too.

It only takes a bit of it too, (for me it did) not too much is needed to feel the effects. :bearbreakdance:

Don't smoke off tin foil. Use glass.

or roll the resin into balls to consume.

This stuff grows everywhere in some places. Everywhere. Cracks of pavement, any empty space, en mass too. If you source seed and it's not a weed in your area then be careful not to let its seed spread. It has the potential to become majorly invasive if the climate is right for it.
