damn i was just reading about it , what you are saying sounds about right ;
i'm not in the states , it's a hassle to go to the states and get a po box then order then wait to come back again , anyway might have to S :
Im pretty sure the ape vendor ships internationally
they do , but mail in my country is bs , nothing international ever makes it , i stopped after several attempts , just the first time worked that's why i've been growing mazatepecs for so long ,

Quick question.....
Does anyone know what size micron filter came on the filter patch bags sold by The Mad Season? (The empty ones not the spawn bags if there was a difference) Sorry if this isn't the right place just wanted to try and ask first before starting a thread.
Thanks!

They had .2 micron T style filter bags (which I doubt you are referring to) and they had medium and large size bags with .5 micron filters (the most popular ones)

Complete newb here looking for some guidance before starting. I have gathered my information from here, here and here.
1. Is the use of filtered tap water OK?
2. For the jar lids, I have seen using the actual lids and drilling a small hole in them OR just using aluminum foil and poking a hole through it. Does it matter which method is used?
3. Flame steralize between every single jar, or every other?
4. Instead of using a SAB, I was going to use a HEPA filter on a small (<100 ft^2) room over night, then turn it off an hour before innoculating. I would put a mask on over my face. Is this an appropriate method?
Thank you for your insights.

Sounds good. Is it better due to having a better seal around the edges compared with foil?

But... that's not the answer I wanted to hear! Thank you for the reality check though. Would using a filter in a room with the SAB have any benefit at all - or is there another step in the tek where it could be beneficial?
Thank you for the quick reply!

The filter only means that there is probably a very low spore load in the room, which is good in itself but your success rate will depend on your sterile tek (in your sab)

You are the biggest source of contamination. The SAB protects your work from you! Plus the far lower spore count floating around the room.
Filtering the room won't help at all. Much easier to isolate a very small area (SAB) versus trying to do that on a large scale (whole room).
You would never get a room clean enough, nor would it be beneficial over a SAB. Why don't new growers want to use this cheap, simple, and effective tool? Stop and think a while on this...

And don't skimp on the size of the SAB. These massive ones are the only way to go, and not super easy to find. I had to visit 4 box stores before I found a huge one. Small SAB's don't work well.

Personally my hesitations were based on not feeling comfortable with inoculating properly - so having an obstacle in the way exacerbated those concerns. There is some folks out there saying you're probably fine without an SAB and my existing bias liked that option. Also, not really understanding sources of contamination (me) helps with making the wrong choice.
I will be using a SAB though!
This or that would be ok?

Yes it would π I didn't read on how they made their arm holes but I used a big coffee can and placed on the stove until heated, if you think it's ready give it a couple more minutes. But it's perfect size and makes the hole perfect and clean. I hate seeing ugly arm holes in people's SAB.

That is the method used on Bod's thread, though I think I can go nice and slow with a 5" hole saw and be good to go. I don't drink coffee either
