my headphones died this afternoon after about three years of prolonged daily use
it is a set back, but difficult to feel shorted by
going to walmart with Mom first thing in the morning to pick up a replacement
first day out since my blood work -- get to wear a new pink and white camo mask Mom picked up for me

Mom and Merlin were camping all weekend at a rented cabin per the lockdown rules
think that going forward they can schedule a lot for the little camper, but the campground has to make sure no one books too closely together

Mom ordered me two new books for my birthday later this month because she still appreciates reading over computer time :lol:
they got here already, delivered today
Wise Man's Fear -- the second book in the series by Patrick Rothfuss that got me to pick up reading again after a 2 year hiatus
and Gideon the Ninth -- a book suggested to me via my booktube subscriptions in a sci-fi and fantasy over view
published last year, Lesbian Necromancers in Space
main character is apparently a swordswoman from the description
which, naturally, makes me giggle with regards to the "sword lesbian" nickname for trans women in the lesbian community

Starting to pull all my gear together for a 5 day, backwoods canoe camping trip. Just got the forecast and it looks like a severe polar vortex is going to make things cold and windy. Snow  in May?!?!?!

I'll be targeting brook trout on a fly rod. Can't wait, it's my favorite type of fishing.

New York strip loin and sweet potato cooked over an open fire is pretty great too.

well, apparently now that the province is off lockdown no one cares anymore
was practically the only shopper with a mask on, and only one worker did
the lady at the cashier was all bubbly and came out from behind her plastic screen to chat and scan items in the cart with the little hand held thing
still observing social distancing rules and they had directions which you were "allowed" to go through aisles
but other than that people seem to be acting like covid is over because lockdown is over
got myself 2 packs of lighters as well to not have to go out for more any time soon

I'm honestly flabbergasted as to why we haven't been hit by COVID harder here, only about 30% of people were wearing a mask when this started and a lot of them not how they should. Now that you have to do it by law about 50 or 60 percent of people do, but not nearly as many people as we need.

What is troubling is that many cities are reporting more deaths than recoveries of covid. I'm not sure if it's because the cities are better equipped to diagnose the dead than the living or if it's because they're only reporting the severe cases since there's a serious lack of testing.

I just discovered that the Wikipedia page for COVID in Mexico is incredibly well documented and sourced though:

Strangely the Spanish version is lacking in detail compared to the English version:

Nah man, I don't know why it is, but there's nowhere near as much technical information out there in Spanish as there is in English. Maybe it's that people think you need to go to university to learn some things or maybe latin america isn't as tech literate or doesn't have as much access or interest in documenting that type of stuff.

I always have more luck finding info in English than in Spanish. It's kinda sad, but on the other hand, I'm gonna take some tutorials/courses in English and translate them to Spanish  and charge for them. The market is there: not everyone who wants this info is bilingual.

Interesting. That sounds like a cool gig! I once thought of teaching English to foreign countries. Havent done it yet, its a huge commitment.

The Tech thing might be a big factor. When I went to Mexico, it definitely has that "classic" look. Havent been to Mexico City thou.

I haven't been to Mexico city recently, but from what I remember they have more access than the rest of the country to tech, but in general Mexico hasn't embraced online business as much as the US or Canada. The demand and pay for IT people is a lot less than in the US. Mind you, it's not bad, but it's peanuts compared to other countries.

Where would you start? I've thought about doing that myself, but since my mom taught me English since W was little, I don't really know how to teach it. I think the easiest option for me would be to charge for conversation time and review the video after the session is over.

Say you have a 20 minute conversation, then you go over the video and highlight mistakes or improvements that could be made.

Thats a great idea! I think theres some websites that can help you with that. One is www.Fivrr.com Or start a website and spread the word.

Very true about the Internet and Mexico/South America. Just a different culture.

Food is one of those things were YouTube is better. I like Binging With Babish and Joshua Weissman. I haven't heard of this Bong Appetite thing though, after looking it up it definitely seems up my alley :lol:

One of my favorite things to do is watch Bong Appetit while I'm smoking out and having a beer. And then cooking after.
