Most people who got it bad enough to die had it effecting them for months if not the better part of a year. (That's not including the dormant period, which can last for years.) In modern times this is actually a good thing as the more time modern medicine has the more likely it is to be able to fix it.



Like even with countries giving vaccines, sanitation standards being far higher, greater awareness, and better medical knowledge a third of the world still gets TB. Back in 1900 you really were almost guaranteed to get it. It killed 1 out of every 7 people in the world who had ever lived. They called it consumption and it's referenced as a regular illness in many older texts. As regular as back problems.


Not saying that to scare anyone, just to reiterate that we are living in a wonderful time to be a human being. No animal could imagine having as many layers of protection as we do. We took one of the most serious and prevalent diseases and brought it down to a point where it accounts for .004% of a rate of infection and less than .0001% fatality rate (here in the US. Mostly poor and elderly who die of it, ofc.)

With what I know of how TB works it could be a very long time before your dad has symptoms, and by then he might be treated.


It's just super super important that he keeps up with treatment. The biggest scary part of TB in the 21st century is that some strains are becoming resistant to antibiotics because people don't complete treatment.


I understand it's an added burden your fam certainly doesn't need but he should be okay as long as yall (him and whoever helps him with that stuff) stay on top of things. I'd be curious to see what kind of measures they're doing to prevent the spread of CV.




A lady I work with is due to have her baby in early May and in an effort to keep everything well controlled they're just inducing everyone on their expected due date. Kinda crazy to think about...



Also come to think of it TB and leprosy alone, 2 heavily prevalent horrible deadly diseases in history, have largely been fought down with antibiotics. Just waving a photo of someone suffering from advanced leprosy or TB should be enough to make people (the farming industry) stop recklessly overusing antibiotics. If we lose our ability to use antibiotics entirely we will go back to the dark ages.

And people can't even imagine what that's like. People can't imagine what it was like being their great great grandpa 100 years ago.

I think that's exactly why it's so shocking. He has consumption. During a fucking SARs pandemic. It's just kind of crazy to me lol. I am hearing a lot about some treatment resistant strains, and it seems like it largely comes out of Mexico, so fingers crossed this responds to treatment and fucks off with a heavy long term course of antibiotics.

I am curious to see how they're mitigating CV in various medical facilities. I feel better about him going to a medical facility than I do any of us going to the grocery store at this point.


They didn't even want to tell me , I had to basically force it out of my mom. And I doubt anyone is gonna call up my brother and let him know what's going on. So I'm gonna do the honors there. I know my parents don't want any of us to worry, but he deserves to know.


Anyway, glad to hear some of y'all are gonna get away into nature a bit. I've been spending a lot of time in the woods myself lately. Seeing fox babies constantly. I'll try to snap a pic next time I encounter one - today I saw one playing by itself by the river bank and it was just so scared of the dog that I felt bad and kept it moving.



Never too rainy and disgusting and gloomy out for a swim, I guess.
