There is a really interesting sentiment in the Tibetan Book of the Dead
that while travelling through the bardo (death realms) after death and before rebirth
one meets all the various deities starting with pleasant ones and moving towards the "dark" ones like Bhairava



the interesting thing about the perception of the encounters is that the deities are all creditted with performing the same action
but in different ways
the pleasant deities try to guide the 'spirit' to enlightenment and away from rebirth
but the lures of wandering in the bardo cause the spirit to continue in search of a new body
and when reaching the malicious deities -- the deities instead attempt to scare the spirit into enlightenment
to chase them back onto the proper path and away from seeking rebirth
but if the spirit fails to learn the lesson of all the deities
it will eventually find a new fetus (typically roughly a month after their previous incarnations death) and crawl inside to be born again

so despite being interpreted as a "monstrous" energy
Bhairava is actually highly loved and worshipped in the Himalayas

the Dark One will not give up on you when you are at your deepest point and the Light Ones have abandoned you

similairly, such a sentiment shows up in the "Poison Path" traditions
which are the sub-sects of various religions associated with taking increasingly dangerous intoxicants with the aim of learning each of their lessons
you have to develop a sort of bolstering to accept the darkness that comes with things

in contrast some of us live in the darkness and even pleasant trips like mushrooms necessarily include a stage of working through the fear and pain
hence my personal preference for mescaline containing cactus -- the Purge is a psychophysical experience where the body aides in getting through

found it in a few places in microclimates in arizona by springs and lakes everyone told me no no.
