As for the time thing, I’m glad someone else thinks about this stuff like I do.  I think about it all the time.  I used to think about past mistakes I’ve made, things I’d do differently if given the chance.  It was a dumb thing to think about though.  Everything I’ve ever done has created the series of events that led me to today, and while there are things in my life and personality that I need to work on, I’m glad it all happened exactly as it did.  If I had done anything differently, my whole life could be something else, and it could have come down to one tiny choice.  Everything had to happen as it did when it did.  It’s dizzying to think about.

Another thing I think about is along the same lines as your deer story.  I believe that we’re always just a few choices away from death, that doing xyz at just the wrong time will lead to accidental death.  The day that deer got killed, everything it did in the day led to it being right in front of that car at exactly the wrong moment, and any slight variance in its day would’ve kept it alive.  Grazing elsewhere for an extra twenty seconds would’ve kept it from that car.  And I think about that all the time.  There’s literally infinite options for how things can go down in a day, much of it dependent on the choices others have made, so we usually don’t meet a random, accidental death, but sometimes we choose the precise path to it.  It’s crazy to think about, but in any day, we’re probably much closer to death than we realize.
