Help with GT growth

Hello!
Newbie grower here. I'm trying GTs and Classic PF growing in jars and then transferred to coir shoeboxes.

It's been about 14 days and I only have a few mushrooms growing. The bigger ones appeared after just a few days so I suspect I missed some pins when I broke up the spawn and they kept growing. Their caps look stubby and wrinkled compared to other pics of GTs I've seen.



Anyone have suggestions to get more pins and growth?
They are growing in a room that is low to mid 60s. Would heating them a bit help?

When should I harvest? I can't really see a veil because the caps are so small.

Yeah, they should be warmer than low-mid sixties.  About 10F degrees warmer.

Looks like they want to go, I see all those primordia.

Harvest them when the cap starts to open

substrate was too wet. mist less and/or prep your bulk a little drier next time.

Thank you for the feedback.

I have 11 boxes with only the one box growing mushrooms. The rest are at different stages of colonization.

Can someone give me an idea of what to expect at this point?
How long to harvest? Will more mushrooms grow in?

Should I keep the lids open to dry things out a bit?
I'll try adding a bit of heat.

harvest when they open, i would just flip the lid and skip dunking for a second flush. Just leave it a bit.

Wow..thanks.  I didn't know the boxes are that oversaturated!

Do you mean take the lids completely off all the boxes?
For the rest of the fruiting period, or for just for some period of time (e.g. couple days)?

It doesn't seem like I'm getting a classic flush and the mushrooms are all in different stages.
When the big ones open, do I harvest the rest of the box? Or just harvest the mushrooms 1 by 1 as they get big and open (or stop growing)?

Don't leave the lids off for too long. I'd think it best to dry it back out slowly. Like leave the lid off for a couple hours then put the lid on. Come back the next morning and take the lid off for a few hours blah blah blah till it looks right.  But honestly best to start a new project and dial back the water out of the gate.

Hello!

Harvested my first box (out of 11) yesterday. For some reason, the 1st box seemed to be a bit ahead of the other ones, but I think they will all eventually do something.

About 200g wet:



I now need some advice on what to do. My substrate was oversaturated and there's still quite a bit of condensation on the side. However, the substrate did pull away from the sides of the box (making it easy to get the whole thing out!).



Do you recommend I soak the substrate, or does it still have enough moisture for a 2nd flush?
If so, for how long should I soak?

It was exciting harvesting and trying my first home-grown mushrooms yesterday!
Interestingly, they didn't make me nauseous at all like when I've tried ones from other sources! Not sure why?!

I realize you're asking what to do right now, but I can offer what to do in the future: take some tissue from the middle of those early fruits and clone onto agar.

Once you have more uniform genetics, you'll have more uniform pinsets and canopies.

Do you have a recommended tek for the cloning? Or printing? I haven't looked into any propagation procedures since this is my first time and just the growing was a bit of a learning curve. Makes sense what you're saying about creating a more even canopy by isolating the genetics of one specimen. I got all different sizes this time!

As for this grow, does anyone have any advice on if and how long to soak the substrate after the first flush?

I love the search function.  Try "agar cloning" and some variations on that.

For me, it's all about a clean work space, pouring some cheap plates, and using a bunch of them to find good looking mycelium.

You can open up the stem of a good fruit and use a sterilized scalpel to take a little piece of flesh and stick it on agar.  It'll grow like crazy.

Don't limit yourself to one or two plates.  This is a little labor intensive but doesn't cost much, and you will learn A LOT.

You sould read all about agar.  It's such a useful tool.
