Mutant blobs most likely simply caused by genetics, just what it looks like to me.

Wow, grabbed the big one, 67g of wet, solid fruit. Slight bruise goes green in seconds. Wow!

These crazy guys are not a function of mistakes on my part? Don't care much, gonna be a bunch of weight.

I really will appreciate any insight. I have 2 more monos cooking, made from G2G transfers. And am prepping to make another mono, same same.

G2G rocks!

Thanks for any ideas.

PE....?  Oh yea, perfectly normal on the first flush.  Just went through the same thing except I grew mine on cakes (happens either way).  After first flush you will see massive growth in mushroom sizes.  Those blobs are pretty potent too.

Mainly caused by lack of consolidation.

They look like non albino APE haha :mushroom2:
I've heard that some penis envy spores going around are more likely to cause these mutations and the safest bet is to get spores from a good vendor. Although not sure how correct that is.

Damn...

Those are some pretty big blobs!

I picked mine a little too early:

but was told if you pick them early then it makes room for better pins.  Hard to tell when to harvest them.  Usually go by when they turn more brownish.

Then got this for my second flush taken a few moments ago:

No more blobs, not great yield either.  On cakes, my first flush was only 28 grams.  This one will be more, but still... you never know with PE how it will turn out.  Next run though will be bulk substrate.

Holy crap! That's a massive whole fruit, not hollow one bit! They look amazing. Does PE take much longer to grow when compared to, say, Golden Teachers?

They do take longer which is why they say its more potent.  It has more time to fruit fully.

This is my first time cultivating ever and only on 2nd flush.  I do know that one must have patience with them though.

OP, how long did it take to produce fruit once you put it into fruiting conditions?

Sonic's "I'll buy a pressure cooker someday" Instant Pot times and settings:
  • Popping Corn Rapid Re-hydration - Half fill all containers with corn. Empty into Instant Pot. Cover with water. Run 30 minutes on PC. Release, remove, dry.
  • Wheat/Rye Berry Soak Re-hydration - Half fill all containers with grain. Empty in pot with water. Soak for 6-12 hours, air dry until surface is completely dry.
  • Grain Jar Sterilization - Run 2 - 2.5 hrs on PC
  • PastyPlates, MEA Formulation- Run 45 minutes on PC
  • LME Liquid Culture - Run 45 minutes on PC

I have read the PE fair's better with a casing. I forget who but there is a guy here that has a casing tek and he says he always cases PE and get almost no blobs.
I have yet to run pe but I got the spores once I get the 3 strins going I have on agar I will be trying some PE got to get on that mushroom tip!

If I remember correctly blobs are caused by too nutritious of a sub. Is this possibly exacerbated for PE? I feel like this would explain why it's the first flush, but yet some people manage to assuage the blobs with casings and other methods.

intesting I hadn't heard that odd that it can be too nutritious.

Ok, here are 2/3 of the fruit. I've cut the biggest to fit in the dehydrator and all are solid, no hollow anything. Best outcome so far as I develop my skills, pats on the back all around!!

I used pasteurized 45%C+45%V+8%Hpoo+2%G. 1:1 mix, 7 quarts of oat grain spawn. Also cased w jiffy 3 days before placing mono in fruiting. Looking back, the mono took 30% longer to both consolidate and fruit as compared to other cubes.

Blobs are mutations. Mutations occur because of environment and genetics. Saying that too much nutrition is the singular cause is a bit of a stretch. I have had B  blob on me in agar. I use a low nute agar mix without dextrose so that the myc will stretch out so I very much doubt it was from too much nutrients.

Penis. Its whats for dinner!

For what it is worth, I have had B+ blob on agar. I'm not sure if I had already switched over to low nute agar mix. For reference I made the move from 1:1 to 3/4:1 ratio of LME:AGAR. If I were betting I'd put my money on the surface conditions having more to do with it than the nute mix. Blobs are mutations which are expressed based on conditions, so probably more than one reason to mutate including contams. My dish looked clean, but it's possible contams were the culprit in my scenario.
