What are traits of a tub with too little water in the coir?

I've been backing off on water in my substrate prep to avoid contams. At 2.5q water per brick. Someone once mentioned that the surface gets very dense when there isn't enough moisture in the substrate. Is that true, anything else?

Dense in what way?

You want not skimp on water.

I found to pasteurize in too much water and when go to mix as substrate squeeze out excess til drips are less, then, add that to what mix colonized grain well.

Never found any bacteria issues as had when young to. If grain colonizes thoroughly, substrate does so too.

It will be noticably dry and you will have to mist often to keep surface conditions optimal. Clean spawn is how to avoid contams.
