Oysters can be that slow? I was planning on some from my logs this year (ostreatus in douglas fir, pulmonarius in grand fir, eryngii in willow).
B.I.O., what did you inoculate into alder? That's the tree that dominates in my woods.

I have found that pleurotus is a lot faster then shitakes. I have had shitakes take as long as 13 months to colonize logs whereas I have harvested oysters in as little as three months from innoculation
