WBS
    #2610618 - 04/28/04 08:47 AM (12 years, 7 months ago)

I have three jars of colonized wbs,1-qt,1-3/4 qt,and 1-pint.They are 100% colonized as of this morning.
I have problems with casings and I need some help.

How should I case them?

I have read every page on the shroomery-I'm just asking for advice, not the faqs.
My experience at casings so far have 0 to 5!I think I have been over misting-I have 2 casings that are real heavy when picked up-I'm dumping them outside this morning.

I have 0 problems during incubating=100%colonized jars, but after that I seem to go down hill.

Any advice?

I have just about everything for casing on this site.

Straw, horse poo, coco coir,verm-I just cant get my casings to pin and when they do ,there are only 1 or 2 pins growing and yes I follow directions pretty good but obviously not good enough.
There are so many different ways-which is a good one and easy one to follow?SDhould I just leave them be after casing and do not spray or mist?
Can you case them(wbs)to coir/verm mix(60/40)and leave them alone?

i never mist my casings, well after a flush but not before/during. probably best to just leave them alone and let them do there thing of course giving them the right temps and exposing to light and providing air exchange when needed but other than that let em be. probably kinda hard at first since you want everything to be perfect but cubes are rough fuckers and can deal with some neglect.

Maybe I'm trying too hard?

I saw that 2 of them were pulling apart from the sides of their containers and so I misted them(way too much),well they got dumped this morning due to excess moisture, damnit!
Oh well I have the wbs that I'm going to case today and I'm not going to do a damn thing to them and see what happens.

Should i put a layer ov moistened verm on the bottom of the casing or just case them?

case with straight coir.
it holds moisture better, shrinks less during flushes and has a neutral PH.

here's a few pics.

first a pinset.

final result.

I'm guessing that you didn't mean to post the same pic twice.

Just a question... Do you use h2o2 in your mist water?

thats a little strong for misting....20 even 30/1 is fine though probably uneccessary,i use plain old tap water now.

and dont throw those casings out, just leave them alone and let them dry a little, see what happens.

remember,patience grasshopper.

I looked under 1 of them and it looked as if the mycelium had perished so I dumped it in my outdoor cemetary.I also quit useing the h202/h20 solution,I now use spring water.
I think I just over did it.

Let me get this right-when you case wild bird seed you put it in your casing container, level it out good and smooth, apply casing layer-wet to field copacity, and level that out good and smooth, then wait?
I live in an area that has a relative humidity of 70%-100% constantly so the humidity wouldnt be a problem right?
But after casing-just leave them alone-just fan every now and again?

There is enough moisture in it to take it to a first flush?

i use a bottom casing layer,then my substrate,then a top casing layer.
yes get them as leval as possible but dont pack them down.
WBS will sometimes give a less than desirable first flush but after dunking the second, third and forth flushes easily make up for the small first flush.
incubate your casing at 86F for 72 hours, then patch (cover any heavy myc growth with casing media).then move it to your fruiter, should be low to mid 70's F.
give it a week to 10 days and you should have pins.
be sure to fan atleast 3 times a day, more if possible.
better still get an air-pump and timer.

Getting pinsets like that is easy with coir. I haven't had a strain that didn't do it. The 10/1 H202 water is just fine. Myc can convert h202 to oxygen. Use the coir and don't stop misting, that will affect you pinset. With coir it will tell you when you have misted with the right amount cause of the color change.

Don't incubate for to long coir can overlay very easily.

Now the bottom layer. No the main reason it's there is not to add moisture that is just a nice side affect. THe main reason it's there is that it is a toilet. Gives the myc piss a place to run off to and the substrate isn't sittiin in it.

To put it simple, your guilty of loving to much. Just don't mist so much and you'll be fine.
