How do I fix my leaky P. cooker
    #2610386 - 04/28/04 04:40 AM (12 years, 7 months ago)

Last time i used my pressure cooker it seald up perfect and had no problems. A month later i go to use it and i find its giant O-ring or seal has fallen off. No biggy i figure and check the seal and put it back on. I have done it before with no problems. There is no evident damage or rot to the seal. i tried to turn it around and spin it in its groove but nothing worked. Does any one know how to get the seal back to fitting right so i dont have to use my tiny almost worthless P cooker.

Give the rubber seal a wash in warm water, then smear
a layer of vaserline or vegtable oil on it, then replace.

Sometimes they just shrink a little due to temp.

NEVER use vegetable oil in connection with rubber parts.

But a petroleum based lubricant is still ok right?

Yes, Vaseline is OK with rubber (but not with condoms  , since they are not made from rubber!).

Most auto parts stores have penetrating oils (WD-40, berrymans, break-free).. Give your cooker seal a good spray with one of those and let it sit somewhere, the rubber will swell a little, but will be good as new. I personally use dry silicone spray, it seems to condition the rubber well.

Most gaskets have a little divet missing along the outside edge. This must line up with the handle. Look close, it is small, you wouldn't think it would make a differance but it does.

By the way... Does anybody know how to get sharpie markers off of a computer screen?
