First Monotek - Just Tiny Pins??? (pics included)

What’s up good people?

So after a successful run with BRF cakes, I decided to try the bulk Monotub setup obtained from midwest grow kits.

• 5 lbs of Midwest 5 grain spawn bags & noc’d with GT spore syringe. (June 4th)

• After bags colonized 100%, I lined tub & mixed spawn with 5lbs of Black Cow Manure  substrate approximately 4” deep.  NO casing layer.  (Juneberries  29)

• First pin (July 8)

• Now have lots of *tiny* pins popping up but not getting bigger. (July 11)

• Temp, RH, 12/12 light along with four 1.5” holes lightly stuffed with polyfill.  Fanning & misting 3x day.



SOOO....
1) anything I can do (other than time) to get these little pins to fruit?
2) any signs of contamination? btw...last some pics look like a green tinge on mycelium but it’s just the camera

Whatsup man!

Fanning isn't necessary that's outdated info. The yellow metabolites are sometimes normal especially using a manure sub, I don't see any contams. Sometimes pins can be very slow to develop, don't overmist it as that may abort your pins and can lead to bacterial problems which lead to mold problems. Only mist it if the droplets from the previous misting have mostly evaporated. In the future I'd only go 3.5" deep with a manure sub, I feel that it get anaerobic if it's too thick. I'm still a noob myself but thought I'd share. Good luck!

What size tub is that? Also all the black tape on the outside of the tub is unnecessary. Keep the surface conditions right and fruits will form on top of the sub. This is a helpful thread on proper surface moisture https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/23999053

Thanks bro!  I’m def gonna skip the gorilla tape next time.  (I saw a vendor website that recommended spray painting the outside bottom 4” of the tub with black paint)

Tub is 20" X 15" X 12"

btw...what operations you got going on atm?

I have seen this information spread around, and even seen some vendor videos on Youtube saying to do that, but that doesn't prevent side pins as light is not a pinning trigger, you need an actual liner to reliably prevent side pins.

The liner clings to the substrate so that when it shrinks it doesn't create a gap and in turn a nice microclimate for pinning.

pin caps look black.  I think they are aborted, so they will not continue to grow now. 

Not sure why.
