DMSO and the bioavailability of psilocybin * 1
    #26102053 -

Hello friends. I found this old thread discussing adding a few drops of DMSO to a lemon tek. The OP in that thread felt that the DMSO made the mushrooms up to three times stronger, presumably because the DMSO increased the absorption/bioavailability of the actives in the mushrooms. However, I haven't found many actual trip reports of anyone else trying this with mushrooms. So, has anyone else tried this with mushrooms, and what was your experience?

I'm thinking of adding a four or five drops of DMSO to my psilocybin orange juice this weekend, but I'm afraid that 1) I'll underdose and have an underwhelming experience, or 2) I'll go overboard and have an experience that's very challenging. With me, it could go either way, LOL. Trying to get it right the first time.

Thanks for any feedback.

I've used DMSO for other things, but for transdermal use. Maybe I'm wrong in this line of thinking, but you can't get any more bioavailable than 100%, and lemon tek'ed shrooms are already way over 33% bioavailable right? I don't think it acts like an MAOI that keeps stomach enzymes from breaking it down any faster. Just lets larger molecules permeate easier. Also who cares if you have an underwhelming experience if you're just testing it out, better to dose too low than too high if you're trying something experimental like that I would say. You could just go the already tested route and just get some syrian rue or something similar.

Id guess same effect as chugging tea in one gulp. Its about how much substance hits receptors before tolerance goes up i think. MAOI is different thing tho.

To give you some context, ten dried grams might have the same affect on me that two or three grams might have on someone else. (Last time I tripped it was on 7.5 dried grams of penis envy, and before that 15.5 dried grams of regular cubes. The experience both times was pretty mild.) Maybe bioavailable is the wrong word. Someone suggested that maybe my body is just not absorbing as much of the psilocybin, hence the reduced effects. I've been looking for ways to increase the absorption. Harmala alkaloids extracted from Syrian rue (which I also have here) DO have an affect when I trip, but the affect is short-lived—assuming they don't make me throw up, which happens two-thirds of the time when I use harmalas. 🤷🏻‍♂️I do get what you're saying about erring on the side of caution, though.

I usually chug my lemon/citrus tek in one gulp. I used to make chocolates, but that's too much trouble, and soaking the ground up mushrooms in lemon or orange just for twenty minutes is so much faster and doesn't make any mess. How does making tea compare to a lemon tek?

Alright, I will. Thanks for the link. I've never heard of Shilajit before. What's been your experience with it and fulvic acid (hadn't heard of that, either, until just now)?

Tea hits strong and fast. No need to consume mush tissue. You could make tea from 20 30 dried grams and reduce it to cup worth of tea. Chug that. If still mild, face it dude you are a freak.

Ha! I've been called worse. I'm going to give tea a try soon, too. BTW, I always strain out the mushroom matter from my citrus teks, too. I have come to love that distinctive mushroom smell, but you can keep the mush tissue, thanks. LOL

I've never combined it with drugs besides caffeine but the fulvic acid is supposed to make things you ingest more effectively delivered to cells.

Overall shilajit is an adaptive tonic and good for health/cognition.

I actually ordered some pure himalayan shilajit, should be here tomorrow. Hope it's as good as they claim it is.

Nice. That's what I have right now but I'm going to try the Altai mountains stuff and see if it's as good.

Don't start your dose too high because it can swing you to the Raja guna after around a week.

Interesting, I'll see if I can get my hands on some ASAP and give that a try.

I tried a half teaspoon of DMSO with five grams of mushrooms. I think the DMSO did have a positive effect, but it's been so long since I just had five grams, I'm not sure how much of an effect it was. I may try five grams on its own next time. HOWEVER, I got really irritated/angry, too, which definitely affected the trip. I live close to a major corridor in my city for ambulances and fire trucks. The sirens and horns drive me insane at all hours, but it's impossible to predict if it's going to be a busy night for emergency vehicles or if it'll be nice and quiet. Well, yesterday was quiet during the day, but it turned out to be a non-stop night. So that colored the experience.

Later this week or next weekend, I'll try again, either five grams on its own, or five grams with some DMSO, and see what happens.

Yessir. The only problem that I can really see is that DMSO makes your breath stink if you use too much—which is why I only went with half a teaspoon. The guy who first told me about DMSO said to try 10 mL, which is well over a tablespoon. That seems like a lot. I'll probably go with a full teaspoon next time, though.

We use a roll on topical mixture of DMSO on horses for some kinds of imflamation. I had wondered whether the smell was the DMSO itself or something that was mixed in

stiiiiiiiinks
