anyone tried high meat?
    #26098953 -

Im completely fascinated by this but I dont really want to try it, you take raw meat(most people use liver) and put it in a jar in the fridge and leave it for months, airing it out every few days to prevent botulism, and then you eat small peices at a time before your meals, it works as a digestive aide

liver taste better, muscle meat gets an ammonia taste to it

ive seen about 6 different popular youtubers do this

its supposed to make you feel good too

see I didnt make this up https://www.answers.com/Q/What_is_high_meat

I feel like there are better options for digestive aides. If you wanna play with your meat why don't you try dry aging or maybe you can spatchcock a turkey for some toddler-level giggles?

Vinegar is probably better if you're talking about digestive aids. I'd try high meat if I knew it was made by someone who's experienced in making it, just because. But I doubt it would be anything other than disgusting though.

It's kind of funny seeing this growing movement of raw meat eaters. I remember reading about this one guy that had some disease or stomach disorder, I can't remember, but he claimed that the only foods that wouldn't give him issues were raw meat. The dude had a goat head chilling in his fridge and he would just pluck out the eye balls and brains for a snack.

Yeah no

I found this nematode in a cyst inside the muscle of a fish I caught the other day. It would have been gross if I hadn’t found before I cooked it, but i would have been infected if I ate it raw.

That being said i effectively eat raw beef. I rarely get the middle even warm, but that’s how a steak should be done.

I've heard it's good too. I just looked up offal and it looks like it's not even a specific food, just various organ meats. I don't get the aversion people have to organ meats (unless it's rotten also). That's where all the nutrients are.

It's pretty hard to feed me something that I just can't do. I have what I would like to think is a pretty wide net for a vast array of different things that I like to eat.

But liver...I just can't. I had a bad experience. I had some liver once where the aftertaste stayed with me for days. Like maybe even a week. It was horrible, man. Like it made me nauseous the entire week. I probably brushed my teeth a hundred times that week and I could still taste it.

a few paragraphs from the fat of the land by vilhjalmur stefansson, on his time with the Inuit

Quote:
In  many  districts  fish  were  caught throughout  the  summer in  larger  quantities  than  could  be  consumed.  There  were two  methods  of  preservation.

I saw  a  typical  instance  of  one  method  during  my  first year  in  the  North.  Fish,  ranging  from  one  to  three  or  four pounds in weight, were caught in great numbers. They were immediately  slit  and  the  entrails  removed,  and  were  then piled  in  long  windrows  just  back  from  the  sea  beach,  and covered with  piles  of driftwood  for protection  from  dogs  and wolves.  If  there  had  been June  fishing at  this  place,  the  fish would have been nearly liquid by fall. Late July catches grew so rotten  that a  fish might fall  to  pieces  if you  tried  to handle it.  The  August  catch  was  pretty  high;  but  toward  the  end of  September  there  was  so  much  frost  at  night  and  so  little thaw during the day that putrefaction ceased.

Decayed  fish  were  not  eaten  during  the  warm  weather;they  were  not  considered  good  until  frozen.  As  soon  as  the freeze-up  came,  they  began  to  be  used  as  delicacies,  some-times  as  whole  meals.  The  only  way  of  serving  decayed  fish was  to  allow  them  to  thaw  in  the  house  until  they  were  as soft  as  hard  ice  cream, when  they  were  eaten  somewhat  as  a child would consume  an  ice cream  cone. The  taste  is similar to that  of our strong  cheeses.  The  attitude  of  the  Mackenzie Eskimos  toward  decayed  fish  was  about  that  of  our  fashion-able  diners  toward  Camembert  or  Limburger
