Virus Alert!

I seem to have gotten a virus from something I downloaded within the last couple of hours. I would advise everyone not to download any off site video files etc. I can't point the blame at any one person as I've downloaded a couple of different ones recently, but I'm sorry to say that I won't be downloading any more video files in future. Still pictures are far more useful for identification purposes anyway.

Got a loud beeping noise, then noticed a new tab had opened up saying my system is corrupted. I deleted all my recent downloads. I noticed a shortcut on my desktop for a free virus protection software which I don't remember downloading so I assume it is bogus. When I right clicked it, it said that it was only a shortcut and the link to whatever it was, was missing or something like that, so I just deleted it. I ran a security scan and it came up zero threats, so hopefully it is gone.

I’m not taking the piss at all, we are braver than firefighters and police. Possible the sum of them plus the military actually. They show up and do their thing and get to be anonymous. We are easily IDed and just as easily doxxed. People have called me ”buddy” derisively for God’s sake. We are all fucking heroes.

Does anyone know anything about Bitdefender Antivirus Free? That was the shortcut I deleted, but it is still coming up on my list of Apps and features, however, it says it was installed over a year ago, so it would be strange that I'm only having problems with it now. I wouldn't normally download free antivirus software as I'm suspicious that they may themselves be actual viruses, so I doubt I would have installed this myself. But I'm wondering, does it come preinstalled with the basic Windows 10 package?

Upon further research, Windows 10 comes with 'Windows Defender', so I think that 'Bitdefender' is something different and I'm not sure how it got on my system. I'm thinking of uninstalling it, does this sound like a good idea?

I tried, but it said 'Bitdefender product agent was not found. Please check the installer validity.'

I’m on my phone at the moment. Doing a system restore for 24 hours back, I haven’t done anything important on my PC since then, but it’s taking a long time. I’m hoping that will resolve the issue.

System restore failed, stating an unspecified error, and I still can't get that damn bitdefender uninstalled. I think I'm gonna have reinstall the entire system.

Bitdefender is a legit Anti Virus, not sure why it won't let you uninstall though. It might be worth downloading Malwarebytes and doing a scan.

Wow that's really awful. There are several online link testing tools that scan for viruses, they aren't as good as an anti virus but maybe can prevent something like this.
Bitdefender is a real antivirus, either the free license ran out and it is bugging you or you downloaded a virus that is disguising itself as bitdefender :/
I hope itll be sorted soon, trusted identifier are doing us all a huge service.

You are right Duggstar, I've been thinking alot about how easy it would be to get a malicious virus from clicking an external link. Hell the person that posted the link may not even know, some viruses can piggyback and lay dormant until the right opportunity comes along and then it pounces. So yeah, if noobs can't take the time to learn to post pics on site then I guess they'll be out of luck...
Also as everyone else has said, you guys TI's are a special gift to us, you guys are responsible for other people's well being and who knows how many people you have saved in your time here?! You deserve so much credit.
I've said it before, we should make an appreciation Thread for you guys, because well you deserve it.

I think I may have already gotten ride of the virus as the problem hasn't occurred again, at least so far. I'm reading that some of the files might have been corrupted and that's why I can't uninstall Bitdefender, but maybe it wasn't that that was the cause of my problem. I still want to uninstall it though just in case, so I'm trying to reinstall it again, to fix the files, so that I can then uninstall it, if that makes sense. Goddamn I hate computers!
