That's really thin and whispy myc you got there. Is that an active strain? I'm with caps... doesn't quite look fully colonized yet based on how visible the grains are... but also does look fully colonized. Huh. I'd probably spawn it as is if I'd been following it from inoculation on agar and knew it was clean Waiting can't hurt either (yeah, I might wait if I saw it like that... weird culture man... can't decide how I feel about it. Almost looks like non-mushroom myc, or maybe an edible.)

I'm with you, very wispy. Maybe a pan culture? I've heard they're wispy.

Everytime I ran oats the clean myc was always really whispy. Every jar that had thick myc in it comtammed during or after first flush. Fuck oats

yeah oats suck always made me question my spawn I believe its due to the hull and maybe being more starchy leading the myc to look like that I switched to wheat and will never again use oats

Well shite. It's texan. Close to if not an isolate as I've been transferring it forever. It's the last run of it as I have a lot of new stuff from spores coming I've got some of this texan in tubs fruiting so it's not pure mold. There may be some riding on the culture, the agar looked clean though. I just spawned some yesterday and it smelled like ripe ass shroomy fungus. We'll see. This strain used to look way thicker and more rhizomorphic when I used rye berries. As soon as I switched to oats most of my stuff looks wispy in jars. I figured it was because its climbing over the oat hulls and not right on a more nutrient dense rye berry like I'm used to. Now I'm wondering if it's just because the culture is so old and senescent, I'm leaning toward that as my colonization times have slowed down considerably, even G2G takes 2 weeks or more at 72 degrees going 1 to 8 or 1 to 10. I've really kept this poor thing around way too long.
Here's another pic of the texan spawn a bit more colonized.

New here, please don't hurt me
It's my first time growing, and I'm using a kit bought online.
I only followed the instructions, but something tells me it's not going well.
I don't even know where to start reading, to learn more.
In any case, this was mine a few days ago pic
Then someone told me it was mold, and I researched that hydrogenated water (peroxide 3%) helps dissolve it. So I sprayed a bit on it until it all dissolved.
Now it looks like this: pic2
Is this salvageable? Tips? How to keep going? To throw it ? Bury it?
Love <3

Hi Vincee,
First you probably will get flack for buying a kit but that’s what you get for buying a kit 😝
Second every post on here says peroxide doesn’t work, so I’ve never tried it but I just choose to beleive that many people can’t be wrong about it.
Last, you’ll get more people looking at your pics if you actually post them on here. Lots of people won’t click external links.
I didn’t look.
Good luck!

It seems a bunch of folks like wheat. I was having serious bacterial issues with rye athough it was organic rye. In the same run I made some spawn with oats and some with rye and all the tubs with rye contamed fast, I could see the wetspot in all those jars. I think the crop was just treated with endospores before harvest and I purchased it shortly after. Are wheatberries not prone to these problems? I suppose making sure its conventional may help avoid it. I could get wheatberries super cheap. More inoculation points too

I just bought 200# of oats yesterday for $72. I finally found rye and wheat after searching but the same amount would be $240. I’ll keep using oats for now lol

Im concerned about people who can't get every kind of spawn grain to work well. What are you missing on the other kinds of grain you think is good if not that then have you always been insufficiency sterilizing. Then again i think some people are like fuck oats just because I exist and say i like them

Damn grain is expensive for you folk. I can get 50lbs of wheat for 12 bucks, 50lbs of oats for 10, and 50lbs of millet for 20 which is the most expensive grain they have.
Can't find rye though unless I want it special ordered which is a little pricey.
Damn bod quite the ego on display there Oats are just not a good grain in my opinion. They are much less forgiving in the moisture dept. and I just never had much luck with them. My run with oats started long before our little tit for tats anyway.

Feed store grains can come in varying levels of bacteria and bug infestation. Wbs has been consistently clean and free of bugs ime.

I've had bum luck with oats. I like to blame them but in the end I know it's something i fucked up.
Or it's because my last batch was heavily infested with weevils. My last penis grow had weevil bodies strewn throughout the grain spawn
