I guess this would be a good a place as any to say this:

Since the pic function is broken here, make sure you strip the EXIF data from your pics or upload to a site that does that for you.

EXIF data contains potentially identifying information about the device used to take the picture.  Some cameras will allow you to put your first/last name in, and it automatically adds that info to the pics.

There's also cameras/devices that add geotags.

If you're using Windows, right-click one of your pics on your local drive and hit "properties", then the "details" tab.  Notice it has an "authors" section, etc.  Maybe there's nothing there for you, but I guarantee that's not the case for everyone.

We're spoiled because Shroomery strips this info automatically.  Not everyone thinks to check this.  There's software out there that can remove that info, it just depends on your device.

Good info! Had no idea that anything beyond the date was added to photo metadata.

I really wish the security info/tek here at The Shroomery wasn't 15 years old. I would love to learn how to cover my tracks on the web but in the same way some people are bad at math, I'm bad a tech.

Some of you wire wizzes should update that bish for us ig'ant folks.

Well, here's two basic things you should do.

Use Protonmail, it's free, based in Switzerland, and encrypted.  Use that only for these activities, do not give it out to anyone for any reason or use it in any other way.

Use Tor to do anything mushroom related on the web.  Especially interacting on this forum.  Your ISP can see nothing you do in TOR, not even top-level domain requests.

My personal third step is I keep everything shroom related on here.  No references to it in the "outside" world, no pics kept on my drives, no nothing.  Once I upload pics here, they get wiped.

A VPN would probably work equally as well as tor browser too. That being said a vpn is good internet etiquette anyway.

Huh... Well imma gypsy, so good luck actually getting ahold of me. It also wouldnt be much of a feather in anyone's cap to roll a dude with a closet hobbie and less close friends to share it with then he can count on one paw.

Also i wud like to say that i chuckled a bit when i saw the store had shroomery merch available. Seems tacky and counterintuitive but what do i know. Sure, deck yourself out in shroomery swag. Advertise wat your into. I thought it was jst where you donate to keep the site going.
