Lol it's a UK thing! It's like a small room where hot water tank is and usually keep towels, bedsheets etc in it cos it's nice n warm.
Is perfect temp for brf jars I've found. Wouldn't say there was direct heat from anywhere. The only light jars would get is when the doors opened briefly to grab something or check on the jars

I see. Light is good for living things. I haven't done any control tests with colonizing in the complete dark (I'll add that to my list of experiments that need to get done) but I know that used to be recommended and people did fine.

I'd love to see the write up you found about steaming grains. Got a link?

Yeah, light has been shown as beneficial for all stages of myc/mushroom growth.
While hotter environments do promote myc growth, they also benefit bacteria a lot too. Basically, for this whole process you have a race to finish colonizing your grains/subs/whatever, and you want to create the best environment for the mushrooms and not other things. If something gives a benefit to both mushies and bacteria, then it's not such a great benefit for you (risk/reward etc). So, your trick may work, but just ambient temps on a shelf will likely be only a little slower, but benefit myc growth over bacteria, even if just a little. It's a better gamble.

Cool thanks. I've kept the jars in the light this time and room temperature is holding up at this time of year.
I don't know if I'm looking at them too much as I don't think the myc has grown much in the last few days. Beginning to get that sinking feeling 😩. Need to stop looking and reassess next week. Busting to get shaking the jars

Looking is fine as long as you don't let it get to your head and do something dumb. Give it time. Start some new projects if you need something to occupy your mind.

Mate, here you go. Its very simple if you dont want to bother stocking some coins maybe look for a jiggler that may have the neccesary weight.
Have a beautful day

This is the best advice for mycology.
(*Commercial Announcer Voice*) Do you find yourself always waiting on your Mycology Work (TM)? Never seem to see anything growing in your tubs, jars and bags?! Well, here at The Shroomery we recommend starting something else to keep you occupied. Pour some agar! Prep some substrate! Cook some grains! Steam some BRF jars! Work on building a SAB/Laminar Flow Hood! The possibilities are endless, and before you know it *BAM!* you'll suddenly realize that you forgot to harvest some bins on time and have a ton of work to do tonight suddenly. In not very much time now, towers of bags and straw logs will bury you when you accidentally over fill a shelving unit that collapsed! Hahaha! Isn't mycology Fun(tm)?

Actually it would be very VERY difficult to make a bomb, but as you wish! Reachimg 15 PSI should not be anybody's limitation. Pressure cookers are meant you handle much much more than their actual working pressure.
Good luck!

do you have one hole in those lids, or two? I think the jars are stalling because a) they are bacterial, microspore tape is shit for a filter. b) the jars are tall and skinny, not allowing for enough GE, they are stalling cuz of co2 buildup.

Grand I've stopped using micropore 👍
Can I just make the hole bigger to prevent co2 buildup?
