True, but I'm only trying to break off specific weights of it from a larger block.

I use a hand pick. like for mining.  breaks coir apart in seconds in a nice controlled manner:wink:

Are you actually using the furnace blower?  With a major reducer?  Lol picturing Shrooms flying everywhere.  Air from the top?  How hot does that coil get it? Pretty cool and creative!

Here’s my new tool, built by my son, going to get my first bags out this morning.  Didn’t get as high temps as I wanted but hopefully the insulation will fix that.

I got this 12 pack of tweezers for $5, and I put them into a 1/2 pint jar and added them to my last sterilizing run. My aim for this will be to do quick agar transfers using the tweezers both as a "scalpel" to cut it, then to also grab and transplant it to the jar/bag. After each plate I'm going to put it into a dirty pile to just keep re-sterlizing it for fututre use. Using one per plate should keep contam to an absolute minimum and this will also take minimal work. Other great uses will include taking grain transfer or pin transfers to agar from jars/etc.

If this goes well and 12 ain't enough, I'll be buying more. It seems like a half pint jar could hold at least 3-4 dozen, if not more.

Does this match? [Re: hamloaf]
    #26090248 - 07/04/19 03:10 PM (4 years, 10 months ago)

Do you guys think these two things will pair well? Looking at running about 1.3” WG/resistance. Going to be a new tool for sure... just didn’t know where better to ask this than here where the tech leads.

Fan/Blower = 3/4hp Dayton

https://m.grainger.com/mobile/product/DAYTON-3-4HP-115V-Double-Inlet-Forward-7HL58?breadcrumbCatId=2079

Filter = Fungi Perfecti’s 2’x4’ HEPA. (Plus one or two AC filters to act as prefilters, and to dial the WG vs CFM flow rate in.)

https://fungi.com/products/48-x-24-x-5-8-micron-filter

-

FP recommends this fan:

https://fungi.com/products/half-horsepower-blower-1654-cfm-1-sp

It is worth noting that FP does NOT run pre-filters on their laminar flow hoods. By my numbers, if you add a pre-filter or two to this build with that filter and their recommended fan... the CFM’s drop too low.

-

The initial CFM’s of the recommended fan are higher initially but from what I can tell, at 1.0” and beyond, the 3/4 hp Dayton has more staying power.

-

Thoughts???

I’m thinking I run the 3/4hp Dayton on a speed controller and that I should get one of those handy CFM meters... it specifically says the 3/4hp blower is NOT speed controllable but I’m not sure why it would say that. I thought everything worked with aftermarket speed controllers... anyone know?

Some extra information from the helpful HEPA people:

Since you were looking at Fungi Perfecti's filters, I assume you are working with mushrooms or similar.  Because this type application deals with high humidity you are  limited to aluminum separator style filters in aluminum frames.  We sell our filters through distributors and I suggest contacting Mike at CEPA who stocks this filter and will probably be the lowest price you may find.  Email him at Mkurth@cepatest.com.  Please give him his part number, CE24486-01, STD24-48-05PEADC50

I just sent Mike an email as well. If the price is right, I'm going to get two and build a wall of magnificence.
