The microwave oven is harmful to food. It breaks down minerals and vitamins so some nutritional value is lost. I think thats about it.

Some people BS so much.
A microwave will obviously not do anything to your food that is harmful to you. It works by heating the water content of the food; it doesn't "damage" food any more than cooking it another way will, but vegetables will suffer; it's just that the breakdown will happen faster cos of the way it heats the food.
Also, because it works in waves, some parts of the food will get hotter than other parts (think about the peaks and troughs of a wave).
It's true that some food dosn't taste as good microwaved. Veg is rank. It just depends on the food's water content.
I really am a bit of a microwave freak. Worrying.

Microwaves, just like radio and tv signals travelling through the air, its jut a different frequency. When the frequency hits water molecules it causes them to vibrate. Faster they vibrate, the hotter it gets. Now as for certain microwaved foods that don't taste good, people are expecting microwave ovens to do thing they can't accomplish. There's no conduction heat travelling through the air so you can't really bake, broil, roast, grill etc. in a microwave.

Micro Waves were first developed as a weapon by the millitary, isn't it creepy to know that people have been micro waved?

.. when did this happen?
I agree with the above posts stating food cooked in a microwave isn't anymore harmful than food cooked any other way.
A good tip that usually improves the taste/texture of your food from the microwave is to use microwave-safe plastic wrap to trap in moisture and steam your food.

I read that in attempts to create weapons to stun offenders but not kill people, they developed a gun to zap people with microwaves. This causes their body temp to instantly rise. This wreaks havoc on a persons body and causes them to lose control of various bodily functions, ie vomiting, crapping and whatnot.

the microwave oven was a by-product of another technology. It was during a radar-related research project around 1946 that Dr. Percy Spencer, a self-taught engineer with the Raytheon Corporation, noticed something very unusual. He was testing a new vacuum tube called a magnetron, when he discovered that the candy bar in his pocket had melted. This intrigued Dr. Spencer, so he tried another experiment. This time he placed some popcorn kernels near the tube and, perhaps standing a little farther away, he watched with an inventive sparkle in his eye as the popcorn sputtered, cracked and popped all over his lab.
I hold stock in raytheon... I've heard the story severl times and you can come here to read it http://www.gallawa.com/microtech/history.html

i think a microwave is useful only for reheating, specifically at work. a simple way to prevent a lot of toughness, chewiness, whatever is to simply place a cup of water inside while reheating.
