milo is good shit my WBS is basically just milo and millet. I pay $5.00 for 25#s WBS i would not consider paying more for anything else.

Oops, my bad.  It's just interesting how it seems to be overlooked here, given that the prep is so ridiculously easy compared to what I've seen for all other grains.

Boil -> Load into jar/bag and PC

currently looking into making my own rye jars, quite possibly alongside one or two BRF’s. & see where that takes me. quite possibly oats too..side by side comparison will give me a good idea... might as well say fuck it and try WBS while i’m at it lol

Well here's a big difference I don't think was mentioned that I think you're inclusion of brf hints at.

Are you planning on inoculating directly with spores? That'll change your responses. Spores directly to grains has a rather high failrate and often bacterial. BRF jars(from pf-tek) seem to handle spores directly with less loses. For any grains, it's highly recommended to inoculate them with a culture cleaned on agar first. BRf jars don't run the same as grain jars.

Also; getting down your sterile technique, and preferable a consistent clone, would be a big first step before trying to compare multiple types of grains. Without those any differences could be a result of mistakes or genetic differences, and mistakenly attributed to the grains themselves.

You're going to want to edit that before a mood sees it. It's against the rules to admit to be growing spores purchased from a specific vendor. It's a rule to protect them and the site. Please edit that.

Dude I just did like 40 jars with spore syringes a few months ago and only 3 gave me problems. I understand using agar is the smart way to do it but the top shroomery spore vendors send out extremely clean products. I would never use my own spore syringes to grain lol but I trust a couple of these vendors 🤷🏻‍♂️.

That's great to hear. I've seen plenty of dirty syringes from trusted vendors though. To really be convincing though you'd need to define "problems" and "success". If by "problems" you mean obvious and/ or complete failure and by "success" you mean you grew some mushrooms then that's fine. But it must be communicated to be clear.

So much of the confusion around here is just due to improper communication. There are two types of growers. Some are happy to have successfully grown some magic and some aren't happy until they're doing everything in the best and most productive way possible. The latter end up putting spores to agar for many many reasons. Spores to grain can absolutely work... It's just not how people who want repeatable and fucking amazing yields generally end up doing things.

Update: I’ve been busy/lazy lately so I recently ordered a handful of BRF jars off Etsy. On the other hand, the spawn bag I inoculated a week ago today has started showing a tiny bit of growth! I’d upload a picture but something’s up with the site :/

yea pics are down right now, i think they're workin on it. If you really want, you could imbed images from other picture sites, but they don't strip exif data like shroomery does.

Hope you have good luck. Buying premades is a crapshoot, you never know really know the quality or age of the jars. BRF jars are super easy to make yourself, can be sterilized in just a normal steam pot, and way cheaper than buying.

i know i figured fuck it though. jars were $5 a piece with healing ports / filters and whatnot. jars are supposed to be mixed and shipped the same day. the seller had 5 stars with 80-something reviews so i figured i’d give it a shot. wish I’d have noticed the spawn bag’s growth before ordering though lol
