    #26079882 - 06/28/19 08:29 PM (4 years, 7 months ago)

Habitat:
In the grass.Well kept grass too in an urban environment. In small groups of 5-15. Summer time Southern Ca.

Gills:
Brown to dark smokey brown/black at maturity.. White edges. Mottled appearance.

Stem:
Long thin, hollow. Lighter at top. Reddish toward the bottom and blue at base

Cap:
small to medium. Hygrophanous, orange brown in the center with a dark grey/brown margin.
Finely striate. Some specimens having cracking in all directions.

Spore print color:
getting it now however judging from what it left on its lower pals it looks really really dark... probably jet black.
UPDATE: BLACK spore print
Bruising:
blue on stem and base... deep blue

Looks promising to me, but judging by the habitat they wouldn't be true Panaeolus cinctulus, but rather one of slightly active lawn/grass lookalike species. According to Alan Rockefeller, Panaeolus cinctulus only grows on dung or rotting straw. Wait for the spore prints.

It's an interesting suggestion, I hadn't even thought of Panaeolus bisporus, but the gills look mottled dingy brown rather than grey, and I don't see any heavy blue bruising.

The spore prints look black to me, so I think it's active.

Its all on the base of the stem..

Idk it looks blue in person. Maybe the Iphone isnt doing it justice. Pretty dark almost black by now where I squeezed it.. The caps arent bruising at all but they are drying like this.. It definitely has white sheathing with chocolate brown mycelium. The stem breaks off pieces of gills..

Thanks man for all your help. I have a feeling these and many others are likely underdocumented and little is probably known about them. Its not like I can get the potency tested here lol...

Nice find! Certainly looks like the infamous so called “grass cincts” to me. If so,
this species is extremely close to P. cinctulus according to ITS gene sequences. When the dust settles, it may be considered a subspecies rather than a separate species. BTW I examined several of the pics in Photoshop and what you think is blue is actually greenish, its like an optical illusion, nevertheless its there and to me indicative of being active. Also the spore prints show zero sign of brown hue, suggesting true “jet black” although the spore deposit is not very thick. Cheers.

I’m going with bisporus.  They look like cincts, but they bruise hard.

Good find.

Thank you guys. This was literally one of those "oh shit whats growing in the grass" moments.
Ya there is no strong bruising like you would see in Cincts. I suppose its green lol!! Or blue/green... Either way gonna bioassay these tonight probably.. hopefully they will be dry by then..
Any recommendations on doseage? If they are really close to cincts should I follow that info? I have a really good time on about 3g Stunzii or 4g cubes. I think Ill probably make a tea and do it that way...

These are the last print photos.. the first one s were light because it was only about 1 hour after picking.. these are next day

Thanks again for all your help. This was truly something special for me as I have heard that these things are super hard to find in Southern Ca.. In fact someone once told me that I probably wont find any psilocybe mushrooms in socal. They said it was impossible..  I said it was only improbable.

you should save a spore print i'm sure some cultivators would def want those.

Ya not feeling much of anything. Maybe a little lightheaded.. So Im deducing this is a fairly weak strain or at least a weak genetic example.... Any of you guys experience these same results with grass cincts?

Never tried any but apparently they aren’t Cincts and are a fairly weak species whatever they are, from what I’ve read at least. I’ve also heard they are best made into a tea while they are still fresh.

Yeah 3.5gs dry weight. Fresh is approx 10x dry weight. So you would have to eat 35 grams fresh fruit to roughly equal 3.5 grams dried weight.

The darkish coloration of caps, the longer stipes, the slight enlargement of stipe at base, the grayish side of black sporeprint (without brown hues), the grass habitat, and the negative bioassay all point to P. fimicola in my opinion. P. fimicola is said to only sometimes be active.

I agree likely fimicola or olivaceus. Pretty interesting and I like that you included your test run in the post. More research is needed into the grass dwelling panaeolus sp.

I agree.... more and more research. As long as people are afraid of these things nobody is gonna find anything out. But I’m here to tell you these are safe. No day after side effects and even though it was a light ride I will say that mentally I am pretty clear and positive. Almost like a heavy microdosing lol. I would suggest if anyone found these to take a hell of a lot more than I did. Maybe in the realm of 10+ dry. If I ever find them again in those numbers I’ll post and let you all know how it went.
Thanks again for all your input. All of you. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, this place is number one for community on shroom help.
