No sir, I just wanted to hear how others feel about their own lives and death because I'm interested to know. …. I have been reading philosophies of various sages, some the great and the good and others not so much, …tell[ing] others the supposed "best" way to feel about things for years and years and lately I feel pretty done with it all ….

if we rephrase the question to; " I just wanted to hear how others feel about their own [moment to moment living] and death because I'm interested to know."
or [wanted to hear how others feel about their lives/living While rock climbing, and when fucking, and when feeling guilty after being too hard on their kids, and when... etc...]

It then becomes more obvious, that any answers you get must be objectifications, & over generalizations, that only appear to be approximately correct, to the person in question, due to, the accuracy or lack of accuracy their memory, as well as their current mood, and motivations, ... etc. at the moment they are writing or talking.

Seems actual living, never stays the same moment to moment. But many people repeat the same stories about their lives over and over. And hangout with the same friends to whom they repeat the same opinions year in and year out. As Bod Dylan said “He who isn’t busy being born is busy dying”.

Seems the moment one attempts to step outside of one’s life (here’s the effect of culture & our language again- it should be living ( a verb or process( again should be processing) not life (a noun or object)
The moment one attempts to step outside of one’s  living and comments on it some disassociation and loss of contact with the vibrancy of living takes place.

Another issue with answers you might get is that self deception can be involved. Suppose I, or anyone, says they are not afraid of death. How do you know if its true?

But sure biographies can be a good read.

I don't know about you but autobiographical novels by serious writers are just about my favourite genre. This right here on the shroomery talking about whatever we are talking about seems as valid as any other form of living to me.

I have been reading " A Primate's Memoir: A Neuroscientist's Unconventional Life Among the Baboons"
by Robert M. Sapolsky , as I enjoy his talks on youtube

"In the tradition of Jane Goodall and Dian Fossey, Robert Sapolsky, a foremost science writer and recipient of a MacArthur Genius Grant, tells the mesmerizing story of his twenty-one years in remote Kenya with a troop of Savannah baboons."

He is both funny, informative, and a good writer. So it is biographical, but only of part of his life. I read little fiction, these days.

What I personally think about that is:

We don't really die at the end, I truly believe we go to another place in some form maybe it's reincarnation maybe we go to another planet or heaven.

And it's not just to be pleasent, it's because I believe we can be very important with our body and the universe is so big and we don't understand a bit what's happening outside planet Earth.

We inside our bodies and the places we visit create what's heaven and hell because if I think about death when I'm extremely anxious or depressed I think death is a terrible thing, but if I'm so happy for my present moment even death doesn't scare me.

So I think we are a part of a great universe and not just a beautiful Earth.

And to add one more thing, worry just looks like an unnatural feeling when observed by distance, it's unnecessary and not important for humans unless is really needed

For me the worry should be vanished from our bodies.

What makes death terrible, is that we do not know.  Worse yet, we could know and not be able to change that.

Doubt it.  Then why defend life if an animals doesn't fear death?

It comes down to analysis.  The mind searches to analyze given situations and that can become quite the panic.

energy is neither created nor destroyed.  it is only transferred.

however, that doesn't mean one would have any cognizance of a "former life" if/when that energy is eventually (hundreds, thousands, millions of years later) recompiled into another life-form.

and it's much more likely, if there is reincarnation, that we would be returning as single-celled organisms, not another "top-tier" specie, such as a vertebrate.

think about the tens of millions of people buried in caskets that will likely not decompose for millenia, how is their energy going to be redistributed back into the cycle when they have, literally, sealed themselves off from the soil/air/oceans?

If such a crazy thing as reincarnation is happening (I do believe in it myself), then we must admit we know very little about it or the reasons why we might reincarnate as what or what we might keep and might not. I think it's best not to think about it too much. It's a good way of encouraging virtue and self development in oneself to believe that some of the progress we make in this life may benefit us in the future. But further than that I don't see much use in the belief.

And if one gets alzheimer's or dementia * (& the chances are quite good of getting it), in old age, then what reincarnates? And does it have an identity? And most of one's life is forgotten anyway. Death and reincarnation are just concepts for us, no one around has authoritative experience in these matters. And, "one man's meat is another man's poison." anyway.

Given these facts it seems just another way to waste the present experiencing of life, for the dubious indulgence of worry and hope. Or what is also called: 'clinging'. But, for God's sake, don't take my word for it. Anyone could be the first person to figure it out, or convince others they have done so, and thus gain a following.

Of course the Buddhist, (among those who take this aspect of the teachings literally) view is that reincarnation, is something to be overcome.

Not true.  Whatever you experienced in life of universal coonsciousness goes on.  Subtle consciousness continues.  Gross karma is also inherited.

It's very much impressive what traits continue and are grown out of in a next life.  The whole idea is to shed identity for it's not compatable with eternity.

Or what part of us we wake up to everyday...which is also karma.  Karma isn't just what happens.  But how we are prepared to deal, how we have foresight or lack of foresight to overcome such issues.  Which a direct result, of who we were previously and choices made.

Reincarnation with better karma is like being going to the next level in a video game...but you still have all your weapons.

Inherent knowledge.  Wisdom.  It's usually subtle and subconscious.  Or even unconscious.  But because there are winds of fate, things blow into the conscious mind.

Then one day, all that blows out and comes together.  We actually need bad karma to get there.  As they say, the lotus needs mud, or the lotus comes from the swamp.

What religion seems to describe as reincarnation does seem to be moment to moment clinging to thought, constant birth and death of the illusory self. But it also talks about the subtle body and the vasansas (impressions and memories) imprinted there.

I think at the end of the day we have to admit that we just don't really know and that in life our cue should probably be taken from the many possibilities... our immanent total demise, the possibility of something ongoing, and the need to live well without clinging in the present moment.

As the bard says:

"To sleep, perchance to dream—ay, there’s the rub,

For in that sleep of death what dreams may come

When we have shuffled off this mortal coil,

Must give us pause. There’s the respect

That makes calamity of so long life."

Life is exhausting. I can understand why some religions that believe in reincarnation view it as a curse to be escaped from. Eternal life in any form would be incredibly exhausting.

I honestly find myself hoping more and more that death is eternal oblivion. I think that would be a kind of heaven; an eternal release and escape from the exhaustion of existence and life. To exist at all gets old and tiring after enough time.

But somehow I can't quite get myself to 100% believe in eternal oblivion. It's more like wishing that heaven exists. I think sometimes that death might be closer to being extremely far gone on a psychedelic. There are aspects of that option that seem pleasant to me, but to continue to exist indefinitely in any form seems exhausting.

On the other hand, there are times when life is amazing. I wish we could all have more of those good times.
