Libertarians are just Republicans that like to smoke weed.

MyNameIsntTrashcan said: These conversations often get tense so let me preface the longest sentences I've ever written by stating that this is merely my opinion on the subject and how I feel not necessarily a rebuttal to whats has alrealdy been said. f Being addicted to something is a personal health issue, not a reason to restrict us so called "free peoples" from doing as they so please, so long as said people aren't infringing or causing harm to others.
Having said that...
From what I've seen the proliferation of truly harmful substances that every person knows it's best to steer clear of such as heroin, crack, meth, etc and the degradation of the communities in which its occurring in is due to lack of opportunity, poverty and lack of healthcare, all of which ultimately revolve in one way or another around a lack of opportunity.
👍🏻 So if addiction is the dysfunction that happens because of regular drug use then, yeah, that’s bad. It’s hard to have a strong take on this cuz I don’t have the heroin meth crack experience. Nevertheless I know these substances are criminalized and are therefore pushed out of the mainstream of regulation, testing etc. And of course the government is responsible for this. It’s kind of ironic that we criminalize a drug and then campaign for more support for the people that get burned by it. It’s like you can’t really have it both ways can you ?

Right?

Annoyance leads to aggression. I get annoyed by addiction. In extreme situations, annoyance leads to paranoia. There is a point when something is no longer avgood time. When one is not surviving well.

I was a huge Ron Paul fan back in 2008, saw him at our state capital.
I think Libertarian principles are some of the most moral around - but, such a society does rely on self responsibility & reliance. It would almost take an elevated/evolved society to truly work out. I think right-wing libertarianism (the more conservative subsects) are a bit ruthless. I've always been interested in eco-libertarianism and left-libertarianism but they are all just fantasies, really.

I think I took a "Political Scale" test once and I scored near Libertarian.
Anyone have a precise summary of what a Libertarian is?

So extremely capitalist you purport to be completely tolerant of anyone doing anything as long as those people can tolerate the further concentration of wealth, increasing wage gap and being further disfranchised them.

It's socially liberal while being fiscally conservative. Libertarians think liberty is the most important and they have a hard on for capitalism.

Libertarian principles make sense in rural areas with a low population density where everyone is self sufficient. So basically the US in the 19th century.

I would love to be free from the man as well but "the man" in this country is already concentrated wealth more so or equal to government.
Plus, and correct me if I'm wrong, but one of the Koch brothers is a founding member of the Libertarian Party.
So basically their social acceptance is a ruse to carry their grotesque economic policies across the finish lines.
And I may be a little left leaning but I ain't no commy socialist or even a democrat.

Don't trust the test. It rates everyone as Libertarian (if it's the one I took).
I'm pretty fucking far from Libertarian.

Just checkin' in for a day or two. I've been distracted with the purchase of a new stereo system. Maybe I'll start a thread and see if it gets anywhere...

I think the term libertarian is meaningless. When I first heard it in the 70's it was left. Now it's right. Kind of like Hitler in the 30's.

Yup. Was just listening to something about how all the programs for immigrants to earn citizenship through service in the military have been nixed....
