 Can you use Denatured alcohol like regular rubbing alcohol?

I need alcohol to fuel the alcohol lamp I ordered. I read that you can use either Ethyl or Denatured alcohol. The Home Depot near me carries on Denatured.
My question is can you use "Denatured" alcohol like any other rubbing alcohol, meaning...could I put some on a cotton swab and clean off a syringe perhaps?

It should work just fine. All denatured means is that the manufacturers add poisons (usually methanol or random ketones) so that it's not suitable to drink. Ethanol isn't as volatile as rubbing (isopropyl) alcohol though so it won't evaporate as fast

What do you think would be better to use denatured or isopropyl(70%)? Couldn't the poisons in denatured alcohol harm the spores?

As a surface sanitizer it's fine.
But warm soapy water and air drying works great too.
Note that alcohol is not a sterilizer and you cannot use it instead of a pressure cooker.

7 year bump? wow. Either would be fine, and the same. The alcahol itself is deadly to mycelium. Ethanol Methanol isopropyl all deadly. If any of them touch mycelium, it's dead. The methanol in denatured alcahol makes it poisonous to humans/animals, to deter consumtion. It's all deadly to mycelium

But as long as it dries out before the spores touch it, it will be OK?

The other guy said that dentured alcohol will kill mycelium and spores etc? So as long as my syringe or whatever i rub with alcohol has chance to dry?

Don't rub a syringe with alcohol.
